What you'll do :
Reporting to the Hotel Franchise Finance (HFF) Underwriting Team Lead, the Portfolio Manager-HFF is responsible for analyzing, structuring, underwriting and closing complex loans on hotels located across the United States.
The Portfolio Manager-HFF will work with the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director-Sales of HFF to ensure that credit risks are responsibly monitored and identified.
The incumbent will assist the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director-Sales to attain Bank and Business Line goals through actively underwriting, closing and managing desirable loans.
The Portfolio Manager-HFF is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
What we are looking for :
- Working closely with the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director-Sales, review loan opportunities and advise upon credit metrics and proposed loan structures;
- interact with sophisticated clients including hotel owners, chief financial officers, general managers and legal staff, in-person, telephonically and by email to assess the best credit structure while meeting both Bank requirements and customer needs;
- Gather, analyze and concisely summarize complex underwriting information required to present, along with the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director-Sales, an easily-understood financing request to senior management and credit approvers;
Ascertain key property attributes and challenges including brand analysis, occupancy and rate trends, competitive position and demand drivers, e.
- g. : corporate, group, leisure, seasonality;
- Analyze appraiser and borrower projections of key financial data; incorporate variance analysis while defending independent assumptions;
- review appraisals for accuracy, reasonableness, and identification of valuation and underwriting risks; review property due diligence reports to identify and structure around collateral risks;
- Negotiate loan documents consistent with approved loan terms, including : financial covenants, draw structure, personal guaranties, acceptable collateral controls, default remedies, re-margin requirements and other commonly negotiated provisions;
- Demonstrate strong organizational and teamwork skills; coordinate the smooth and efficient administration and closing of approved loans;
- ensure loans conform to Bank lending policies and are managed according to the credit agreement and customer needs; obtain sufficient reporting data and documentation from customers;
- assist in solving problems related to processing and servicing of loans; identify and mitigate exceptions to Bank guidelines, and ensure that managed loans are assigned timely and accurate credit risk ratings;
Reinforce superior customer service through your own example along with appropriate follow-through with involved customers, employees, vendors and stakeholders.
Handle various other underwriting, portfolio management and upkeep tasks and responsibilities related to new loan requests and / or the existing portfolio.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a 4 year college or university degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting
Minimum 5 years Hotel or CRE-Income underwriting experience at a financial institution
Exceptional credit knowledge and underwriting skills in Commercial Real Estate lending.
Advanced experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and / or credit analysis or related areas.
Strong portfolio management skills allowing for timely identification of credit concerns by bringing items of concern to the Managing Directors attention;
Outstanding presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
Excellent ability to juggle multiple credit requests at once.
Self-starter, entrepreneurial attitude and an upbeat positive outlook.
Ability to travel upon short notice and potentially on weekends.
Compensation : Salary range for new hires is generally $130,000.00 - $163,256.00 for New York, NY. Salary amount is determined by specific job location.
In addition, the role may be eligible for annual bonus / incentives earned and restricted stock.
