Position Summary

Are you passionate about creating a vibrant and supportive community for students? As a Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC), you’ll lead and manage a dynamic student residence hall or apartment complex, fostering an environment that aligns with the goals of Residential Education, the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, and the University.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leadership & Management : Oversee a 24-hour residence hall or apartment complex housing 350 to 800 students.
  • Team Supervision : Lead a dedicated team of 8 to 22 Resident Advisors or Community Assistants.
  • Student Support : Provide counseling, advising, and co-curricular education to students.
  • Crisis Management : Handle crisis situations with professionalism and care.
  • Community Development : Cultivate a strong sense of community and belonging.
  • Judicial Affairs : Manage student conduct and uphold community standards.
  • Budget Management : Oversee the budget and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Facility Oversight : Manage a multimillion-dollar facility with attention to detail.

Position Information

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on July 11, 2025 with the possibility of reappointment.

The position can be renewed for a total of 3 years.

  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard hours : Monday Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. (Occasional evening or weekend work).
  • 11 / 12 pay plan : 11 months of work, with salary distributed over 12 months. Anticipated month off is mid-June to mid-July.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field.

Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field;

experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Presentation and program planning skills.
  • Learning community experience.
  • Experience as a student conduct officer.
  • Experience in crisis intervention.
  • Student staff supervision is preferred.
  • Three years of residence hall experience beyond the Resident Advisor is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,438 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
