ERM is seeking a skilled and adaptable Principal Technical Consultant, Lead Solar Design to join our consulting team, focusing on utility-scale, commercial, and distributed generation (DG) solar projects.
As Lead Solar Design Consultant at ERM, you will support clients across North America in the development and design of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Your expertise in PV plant design, utility interconnection, and renewable project development will help clients navigate the complexities of solar energy projects, ensuring designs are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with industry standards.
Responsibilities :
Conduct comprehensive site assessments for solar energy projects, considering factors such as available space, solar resource potential, and site constraints.
Produce preliminary solar PV layouts and energy models tailored to meet the specific needs and objectives of clients, ranging from utility-scale projects to commercial rooftops and distributed generation installations.
Collaborate closely with civil engineers to assess site conditions, such as soil composition, topography, and geotechnical considerations, and incorporate these factors into the solar PV system design.
Oversee subcontractors in the creation of detailed engineering drawings, including layout plans, electrical schematics, and BOS component specifications, using industry-standard software tools.
Specify and select appropriate solar PV components based on project requirements, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to clients on solar energy system design, integration, and implementation.
Develop interconnection applications and supporting materials, as needed, to support client’s greenfield development projects.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including local building codes, utility interconnection requirements, and industry best practices.
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals to support client decision-making and project development.
Stay informed about advancements in solar energy technology, emerging trends, and regulatory developments, and incorporate relevant updates into client projects.
Support business development efforts by contributing technical expertise to client presentations, proposals, and marketing materials.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering, or a related field. Or the equivalency of 2 years related experience in energy renewables for every 1 year required education.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar energy system design and engineering.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant engineering software tools, such as PVCase and PVsyst.
Strong understanding of solar PV system components, technologies, and industry trends.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceeding client expectations.
Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
