Position Summary
A Horizontal / Directional Drill Locator / Operator is specially trained and has expertise in locating for horizontal / directional drill rigs and product support equipment.
This individual will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground bore holes and pulling back required conduit / pipe.
As a Directional Driller / Equipment Operator, you are responsible for running a variety of directional drilling equipment;
Directional Drill, (Vermeer and / or Ditch Witch) Vac. Truck, Mud Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Dump truck, Locator, along with others not listed.
Responsibilities
- Locate for Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable.
- Operate Horizontal Directional Drill
- Assist in potholing and remediation.
- Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins.
- Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine.
- Ability to properly formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions.
- Ability to perform proper reaming and pull back methods for existing conditions.
- Follows specifications for the job and company policies.
Requirements
- Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
- Ability to Read and Comprehend utility locates.
- Oversee laborers and / or crew members work and monitor time usage.
- Ability to properly clean and maintain the equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle / equipment to assure your vehicle / equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required reports, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
- Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs etc.)
- Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site.
- Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
- Attain and maintain a Valid Class A CDL License
Education
High School Graduate or GED
Experience
- Experience, minimum 5 years, operating a directional drill (Vermeer and / or Ditch Witch).
- Competent person certificates with MSHA and OSHA preferred.
