This job delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures.
- This job refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy;
- enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system;
identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.
e. allergies, height, weight) when needed; accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures;
maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Education
Required - High School diploma or equivalent
Work Experience
Preferred - 1 year hospital experience
Certifications
Required - 1 year of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification
Preferred - Certified Pharmacy Technician License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
- Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities
- Fills medication orders, charges / credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas.
- Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds and enters TPN orders into the computer system.
- Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to : respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Other related duties as required.
