The Department of Psychology has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, outgoing and highly motivated part-time Outreach Specialist to work in Dr.

Sannisha Dale's which is centered around HIV prevention and treatment in marginalized communities, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, adherence to treatment for chronic illnesses, and structural issues (e.

g. racism). The Outreach Specialist will be responsible for conducting outreach with community organizations, building, and expanding reach / relationships for several research projects, with the primary projects at the time of hire being (1) an NIMH-funded implementation grant that involves direct engagement with community residents, businesses and health organizations in local neighborhoods during weekdays, evenings and weekends and (2) an NIMH-funded grant on microaggressions, discrimination, reoccurring violence and resilience among Black women living with HIV.

This person will bring lived expertise regarding factors faced by people living with and placed at risk for HIV and must have a history of community engagement / advocacy within the Miami area.

The primary focus of this position is actively conducting outreach and collecting data through engagement with residents in predominately Black communities during weekday and weekend hours.

This position also builds collaborative bi-directional research relationships with local businesses and community organizations focusing on HIV prevention and care.

The specialist will also conduct outreach, recruitment, and retention of participants on several studies related to HIV prevention and treatment, particularly within the communities most impacted by HIV in Miami.

The position will also involve coordinating outreach efforts with research study staff and community collaborators.

The applicant should demonstrate both experience with and interest in psychology and / or mental health research focused on HIV, health equity, community health, LGBTQ+ health, behavioral medicine, and mental health.

The applicant will be required to affirm and empower diverse individuals in terms of race / ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health, substance use, etc.

The applicant should demonstrate experience with and a commitment to serving Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Having the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously is key.

The applicant will be responsible for collaborating with and visiting local communities and agencies.

The office location for this position is on the Miller School of Medicine campus, however job outreach tasks will primarily be carried out in local communities weekdays and weekends.

This role will require traveling to and engaging with predominantly Black residents in local Miami communities.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS :

Plans promotional, educational, and other events to increase community awareness.

Posts information about our current studies in community venues.

Presents information to community agencies about our current studies.

Researches and prepares reports, records, and other documentation to coordinate and implement public and outreach programs.

Responds to public inquiries about program.

Trains personnel to carry out an effective public education and outreach programs.

Distributes educational literature.

Documents daily activities and the number of contacts reached or served through outreach initiatives.

Maintains effective lines of communications with current and prospective clients to ensure program goals and objectives are met.

Maintains relationships with community partners.

Promotes services offered to the targeted group.

Administers HIV tests and delivers test results.

Screens for PrEP needs and provides referrals.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Minimum 3 years of experience. Any relevant education, certifications and / or work experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes :

Valid unrestricted Florida Driver’s License is required.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Bilingual (e.g., Haitian Creole or Spanish) preferred, but not required.

Must be outgoing and comfortable with speaking to / approaching people about sensitive personal subjects.

Must be available to work flexible hours, including evening and weekends to engage in community events and visit community venues.

This job will require evening and weekend hours and job duties will take place at multiple community locations throughout South Florida.
