The Program Director is primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Hebrew SeniorLife’s (HSL) Center for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and Neglect (CPEAN).

The position will also collaborate closely with CPEAN’s Executive Director to expand and strengthen the Center’s efforts.

Launched in 2018, CPEAN provides safe shelter and services for seniors suffering from abuse, neglect or financial exploitation, and works to prevent elder abuse by increasing awareness and providing education.

CPEAN operates the first and only emergency shelter program in Massachusetts exclusively for seniors, and is funded largely by philanthropy.

The Program Director is a part-time to full-time position, dependent upon candidate preference and experience (must be at least 32 hours per week, spread over at least 4 days).

Hybrid opportunity with primary office location at Bridge Street, and expected routine travel to other HSL sites and non-HSL locations across the Greater Boston area.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Supportive Services Coordinator, whose primary responsibilities include : providing case management and care and service coordination for all CPEAN clients;
  • providing direct services as appropriate and dependent on experience and expertise; managing CPEAN’s elder abuse prevention phone line and email address;
  • performing intake, initial and ongoing assessment, and discharge planning; creating Supportive Services Plans (SSPs) for all CPEAN clients;

tracking client progress and outcomes

Supervise the Housing Placement Specialist, whose primary responsibilities include : assessing and addressing clients’ housing needs;

facilitating client transitions to permanent housing; tracking client outcomes

Ensure consistent outreach to referral sources (including but not limited to protective service agencies, senior centers, hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehab facilities, domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, faith communities, etc.

to foster collaborative relationships, capture appropriate referrals, continuously improve referral / screening / admission procedures, etc.

Facilitate multidisciplinary teams and elder justice task force meetings in and around Boston (groups already established in Boston and Brookline;

future geographies TBD); develop and maintain tools that foster effective collaboration and case review, including, e.g.

MOUs for participating agencies, case review protocols, etc.

  • Working closely with Executive Director, facilitate strong relationships with the area’s Adult Protective Services (APS) agencies, including holding routine meetings, conducting mutual feedback sessions, joint creation of case referral / tracking systems, etc.
  • Create and deliver (solo and / or with CPEAN colleagues and / or community partners) educational presentations and trainings on elder abuse prevention and related topics
  • Working closely with Executive Director, assess findings from recent community needs assessment for potential incorporation into CPEAN’s operations and offerings
  • Working closely with the Executive Director, oversee the planned expansion of CPEAN’s shelter capacity and engage in continuous review and improvement of CPEAN’s standardized documents, forms, policies, etc.
  • Participate in CPEAN donor events and funding solicitations as needed
  • Represent CPEAN in committee and coalition meetings as appropriate, report on challenges and explore resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as responsibilities dictate.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in both direct client service and managerial / supervisory roles, preferably in complex, nonprofit organizations.
  • Must have a graduate degree in social work, public health, or a related field.
  • Must have knowledge of safety planning, trauma-informed services, and person-centered care / services, or willingness to learn through focused training opportunities.
  • Must have a demonstrated passion for working with seniors; experience working with seniors from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds a plus.
  • Ability to be self-directed and highly motivated; excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy; experience with Windows, Word, Power Point, Excel and Zoom.
  • Must be able to travel by car to locations throughout Greater Boston and Eastern MA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the state Adult Protective Services system strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data collection and outcomes tracking a plus.
  • Experience creating and delivering virtual and in-person educational presentations to diverse learners a plus.
