Description
The DOM's Infectious Disease virology core lab is looking for a highly motivated ACTG processor who can start the position as soon as possible.
Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator / Supervisor, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine protocols where methodologies are clearly established.
- Routine tests may include receiving and processing specimens from participants in clinical studies, including separating plasma, cells, and serum;
- preparing cells for cryopreservation; establishing HIV-1 cultures at the Landsdowne Core Lab, in Cambridge, MA; learning how to store, generate labels, and record data in LDMS;
- review ACTG SOPs and documents for updated process; maintains specimen inventory in accordance with laboratory and processing procedures;
routine communication with ACTG network and non-network groups and update the study information. This position may assist with other laboratory research projects as time and interest allow.
A 2-year plus commitment is preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Routine tests may include receiving and processing specimens from participants in clinical studies, including separating plasma, cells, and serum;
preparing cells for cryopreservation; and establishing HIV-1 cultures at the Landsdowne Core Lab.
- Prepare specimens for shipment in accordance with all applicable shipping regulations.
- Learn how to store, generate labels, and record data in LDMS.
- Order common lab and ACTG processing supplies and check supply inventory routinely.
- Review ACTG SOPs and documents for updated process.
- Maintains specimen inventory in accordance with laboratory and processing procedures.
- Routine communication with ACTG network and non-network groups and update the study information.
- Train new ACTG tech when necessary and keep up with ACTG certification maintenance.
- Help with chemical, instruments / equipment inventory and other sample inventory.
- Help with lab organization and maintenance under direction.
- Prepares laboratory reagents as needed.
- May need to help some administrative tasks with Harvard University Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the Harvard / Brigham Virology Specialty Laboratory (VSL).
- May assist with other laboratory research projects as time and interest allow.
- Be able to move boxes and supplies as needed.
- Discusses the progress of work regularly with the supervisor.
- All other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications - External
- BA / BS required.
- New graduate with relevant course or project work
- Will also consider those with 1-2 year of experience in a directly related research setting.
- Long-term commitment preferred : 2+ years of work commitment strongly preferred.
