Assistant or Associate Professor – Meat Science Extension and Teaching

of Animal and Dairy Science (ADS, ) in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA).

The position will be located at the UGA Athens Campus. It is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally / internationally recognized meat science Extension and teaching program.

Major Responsibilities : The individual is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally / internationally recognized meats Extension program.

Extension activities include interacting with industry, county agents, and other scientists to develop a state-of-the-art information / technology transfer program for the meat industry.

  • This faculty member will serve as a resource on meat processing, fresh and processed meat production, and meat evaluation for the meat industry, 4-H and FFA meat judging coaches, and HACCP training, and is expected to develop or contribute to a comprehensive meat science curriculum to include topics in meat evaluation, fresh meats, and processed meats;
  • advise undergraduate and graduate students; mentor students interested in industry work experiences / internships; lead students in extracurricular learning experiences;

and provide guest lectures to support existing courses. The specific Extension and applied research program will be determined based on the successful candidate’s area(s) of expertise, but emphasis will be placed on the ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program.

This faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in meat science, and a graduate course in their area of expertise within the department.

Additional Requirements To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level.

To be eligible for tenure uponappointment, candidates must be appointed as an Associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution.

Relevant / Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and / or Certification

  • A proven record of excellence in meat science is expected.
  • Candidates with a proven record of carrying and publishing innovative research, securing extramural funding, and a background in intercollegiate meat judging are highly encouraged to apply.

The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and meat industry professionals is essential.
