Job Summary
The Director of Communications is a key member of the marketing team with shared accountability for the success of the function.
The Director develops and executes communications strategies to advance the mission, vision, values, and key strategies of Denver Health, drives internal communications programming including oversight of all internal communications including intranet and content management system.
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Director is a trusted partner who routinely collaborates with senior leaders to influence strategy, gather input, achieve buy-in and socialize strategies and plans, and to assure high-quality execution.
The Director also routinely collaborates with service line leaders and department leads to guide, make recommendations for and shapes strategy in alignment with business goals.
The Director plays a key role in developing and implement plans.
The Director leads and day-to-day management for the team a team of strategists, specialists, consultants and vendor partners and its resources to achieve objectives, anticipate and react appropriately to issues, adjusting plans / execution as necessary to ensure implementation of communication plans.
Responsible for content management system ownership, intranet management and content creation, media relations support, on-call participation, website content development, social media engagement, graphic design partnership;
events and community partnerships.
Essential Functions :
Communications Content Design and Management
Designs and oversees internal communications for the health system which includes creation of and oversight of weekly newsletters using email platform, intranet content management, poster program.
Works with service lines and departments to develop and implement plans. Anticipates and reacts to issues, adjusting plans / execution as necessary to achieve goals. (40%)
Strategy and Planning
Makes recommendations and shapes strategy and business goals in collaboration with the chief communications officer and then provides leadership and day-to-day management for the team and its resources to achieve objectives.
Provides communication strategy and content for service lines and departments throughout health system. Engages with senior leadership to support communication needs (25%)
- Operations Management
- Owns and leads the day-to-day management and operations for the content management system , intranet management and content creation, media relations support, on-call participation, website content development, social media engagement, graphic design partnership;
events and community partnerships. (25%)
Staff Management
Manages team members supporting internal communications and co-leads the marketing and communications team (10%)
Education :
Bachelor's Degree Concentration in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations, or related field required.
Work Experience :
- 4-6 years experience in health care communications and / or other internal communications required.
- Three years in a management role required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Excellent communications skills in writing, presenting and speaking for a range of audiences.
- Proficient in developing and executing a communications strategy.
- Capability in developing engaging content and creating a narrative across different communication channels over time. Knowledge of AP style.
- Excellent judgment in dealing with issues under pressure, when time or information is lacking. Demonstration of crisis communications / issue management
- Understanding of content management systems
- Collaborative working style and strong customer orientation with colleagues / stakeholders.
- Ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve goals.
- Knowledgeable and trained in appropriate crisis communications response.
- Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing that there is a problem.
- Problem solving - the ability to systematically analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action.
- Technology - Demonstrated proficiency with technology platforms, for example, the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
