Job Summary :
Using a client-centered model, within the confines of the Capability Health clinic, as well as using a parent educational model in the Early Intervention program, an Occupational Therapist will help the client develop or regain physical or mental functioning by implementing programs to improve daily living and sensory-motor activities.
The Occupational Therapist performs other administrative duties as may be required in support of the program goals and objectives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Developing ideas, plans, and procedures for initiation, expansion, improvement, and evaluation of therapy programs.
- Completing initial evaluations and re-evaluations for patients in the program; examining the condition of patients and analyzing their needs;
determining the need for an occupational therapy evaluation and selecting and administering appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the patient.
Interpreting evaluation data and writing comprehensive reports that reflect strengths and barriers to client participation;
directing program development; and guiding evidence-based intervention.
- Preparing reports and attending multidisciplinary case meetings to decide and review the continuing treatment.
- Maintaining clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and agency system policy;
adheres to federal and state regulations, and policies that affect occupational therapy practice.
- Managing case assignments dictated at the discretion of Capability Health’s needs in the Early Intervention and outpatient clinic programs.
- Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion pertaining to the work environment.
- Managing COTA’s in the clinic or Early Intervention by providing supervision according to the NV standards and regulations.
- Uses professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
- Participating in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Nevada Licensure requirements.
- Participating in monthly staff meetings; attending staff training.
- Managing patients with different types of personalities.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Abilities :
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in an environment with individuals with severe disabilities who may be developmentally and behaviorally challenged.
Qualifications (education, training, experience, licenses) :
- Initial certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy is required.
- A current Occupational Therapy License from the State of Nevada is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children using knowledge of treatment practices per discipline required.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of the federal, state local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy in practice is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) required.

Working Conditions :
This position will require up to 80% travel within the service delivery area. This position will be out in the Las Vegas or Reno area.
Outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold, wind, poor air quality, wet or humid conditions, etc. may vary.
