Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION :
- Teach instrumental music to beginners in Grades 4-5 in five elementary schools
- Spend one day at each school teaching small classes of instrumentalists
- Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of strategies that meet the needs of the students
- Monitor each student's progress and keep student and parents informed via phone contact, SmartMusic and other communication methods
- Keep accurate records of achievement and attendance
- Prepare students for various performances that occur throughout the school year
- Responsible for concert organization, program content and facility arrangements
- Seek regular professional development opportunities such as attendance at seminars and attendance at professional music conferences
- Previous instrumental performance and conducting skills are highly desirable
- Supervise classes to ensure students are learning in a safe and productive environment
- Evaluate and document student's musical progress
- Maintain a clean and orderly teaching area
- Maintain Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools extensive band library
- Prepare recruitment materials and provide recruitment programs at all five schools
- Report for teaching duties in a timely manner and maintain the schedule of lessons without changes unless approved by the Coordinator of Instrumental Music or school principal
SALARY :
Commensurate with experience and education
This position includes the possibility of additional compensation for coordinating band performances, music, and instruments across the regional Catholic school system.

QUALIFICATIONS :
Masters Degree in Music Education - Preferred
Proficiency as a pianist to serve as accompanist for student and ensemble performances
Proficiency on playing performance at the elementary level on flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone
Minimum of two years teaching experience - preferred
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Well organized with excellent leadership abilities
