Purpose

To obtain clinical specimens and perform technical analyses to aid health care providers in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Performs procedures in all technical areas of the clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Performs receptionist, administrative, and clerical duties for the Laboratory
  • Performs analyses and reports on patient specimens
  • Obtains patient specimens and processes them for testing
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as scheduled
  • Accepts and satisfactorily completes other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Laboratory Manager
  • Performs and documents laboratory quality control
  • Participates in proficiency testing and quality improvement evaluations
  • Other related function as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved school with two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Successful completion of 15-week training as part of degree program
  • Demonstrated ability to operate clinical laboratory equipment
  • Experience with and a moderate comfort level using a personal computer
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in a laboratory performing moderate complexity testing

Salary Range

$46,350 per year

  • Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in offices, medical clinics, and building repairs / maintenance.

Work Shift

  • 8AM - 5 : 30PM, Monday - Friday
  • Occasional weekend and holiday work, as assigned
  • Schedule will be discussed during interview

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
