- Applicant eligibility requirements include : an earned medical degree (and preferably a Ph.D.); postdoctoral research experience, research fellowship or a combined clinical and research fellowship;
- a record of significant accomplishment of biomedical research innovation and productivity as demonstrated through high quality impactful publications in leading scientific and / or medical journals;
and a record of funding. Candidates considered for positions at the associate or full professor rank are expected to have substantial active extramural research funding, particularly from the NIH or other federal agencies, foundations and / or industry.
The position will include both research and clinical duties with a primary emphasis of effort commitment to research. The focus of cardiovascular research is open and may utilize a basic, translational and / or clinical approach, using tools of molecular or genetic science, cell biology, pharmacology, physiology / biophysics, computational modeling, AI and / or epidemiology and population health science.
Specific areas of interest for growth include : i) cardio-oncology; ii) arrhythmogenesis; and iii) ischemic heart disease with either genetic or environmental etiology.
Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program, and either maintain or develop high-profile national / global recognition as leaders in their respective fields of cardiovascular science and medicine.
They will also be expected to lead a sub-specialty clinic in their areas of specialization and contribute to the training / mentoring of graduate and medical students as well as residents and fellows.

Facility Description
One of the largest hospitals in the state, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) is a 703-bed hospital with an additional 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The facility recently completed a large expansion project, adding a new Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery unit and the Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital complete with a Pediatric Emergency Room.
Now in it's second century of providing premiere healthcare services, CRMH also features a Level I trauma center. In addition to offering high-tech services, the hospital is home to 26 Graduate Medical Education Programs affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, University of Virginia and Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
