Find a rewarding career making a difference : Join the Office of the Attorney General!

The Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) section of the Colorado Department of Law is seeking a dynamic and committed Assistant Attorney General to join the Professional Boards and Programs (PBP) Unit.

In this role, you will help protect Coloradans through the state’s regulation of nursing and other professions. This dedicated public servant will be involved in diverse licensing litigation work as well as providing occasional general counsel to clients within the Unit.

You do not need extensive experience or subject matter expertise to thrive in this role, as this opportunity offers ongoing mentorship from an experienced team! This position is a great opportunity for an attorney with a passion for litigation and challenging work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The PBP Unit is made up of two administrative assistants, three paralegals, and 14 attorneys who represent approximately 40 boards and commissions housed in DPO.

This work promotes consumer protection through regulating, licensing, and taking disciplinary action against licensees and pursuing litigation against unlicensed persons who engage in a regulated profession without a license.

While this attorney’s primary role will be to serve as litigation counsel to the Board of Nursing, they will have the opportunity to provide general counsel services and litigate on behalf of a variety of clients to help ensure the integrity of Colorado’s regulatory framework.

The attorney’s responsibilities may include any of the following matters :

  • Independently handle litigation, negotiation, hearings, and appeals of cases on behalf of the Board of Nursing and other clients represented by the unit.
  • Litigate matters that require immediate action including prosecuting license suspensions and defending actions to seal criminal records.
  • Enforce the Nurse and Nurse Aide Practice Act against unauthorized persons through actions for injunctive relief in Colorado District Court.
  • Advise the Nursing Board’s Inquiry and Licensing Panels.
  • Assist other attorneys with counseling and litigating cases on behalf of other clients represented by the PBP Unit and the section.

The attorneys on our team represent our clients’ interests in a variety of settings, including professional licensure and disciplinary actions.

The position involves an administrative law practice before the Office of Administrative Courts, as well as some practice in District Court and the Court of Appeals.

Additionally, our work involves advising clients in all aspects of its regulatory functions and responsibilities, including Open Meetings and Open Records laws and assisting with the promulgation of rules.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an attorney who is 1) interested in healthcare litigation, 2) eager to work in a supportive multi-disciplinary team, and 3) motivated to do work that directly impacts the lives of Coloradans.

This recruitment may be used to fill more than one Assistant Attorney General position in the Revenue & Regulatory Law section.

Salary note :

The Department of Law uses a wage progression compensation model. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Attorneys with more than 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney will be hired as an Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II).

The AAG II salary range is $99,318 $132,901 / annually.
