Position Summary
The Genetic Counselor works as a member of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic where he / she serves the needs of individuals and families in the community affected by or at risk for genetic disease or birth defects by providing genetic counseling and assisting them in obtaining appropriate medical care.
The Genetic Counselor is also an important educational resource for the community and other healthcare providers. This is a professional level position working independently within the maternal fetal medicine team.
The Genetic Counselor obtains and interprets detailed family histories, analyzes inheritance patterns, provides personalized risk assessment, reviews available family planning and testing options, and coordinates appropriate referrals to healthcare providers and / or community and state support services.
Work situations require intense and difficult interaction with patients and families requiring a service-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and good judgment.
Internal contacts include staff and management throughout the MHS. External contacts include physicians, community agencies and outside organizations.
Requirements
- Master's Degree conferred by a genetic counseling program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
- Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) Or, American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) Or, Active Candidate Status by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
- Washington State Genetic Counselor License
- Minimum one (1) year clinical experience in an outpatient setting, with specific prenatal genetic counseling experience

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off.
As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position.
The pay scale is $81,245.00 - $116,938.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to : skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and / or education.
If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
