Selectee is required to pass a criminal background check and complete Title XI training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach early childhood special education courses via a variety of distance delivery modes; supervise teacher candidates on all islands;
assist in coordinating teacher preparation / licensure programs; provide service to the department and college; other duties as assigned.
Instructor Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Classroom experience as a licensed special educator teaching preschool to grade-3 students with disabilities;
- Broad knowledge of early childhood special education instructional methods, assessment, and behavior management techniques;
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the Instructor Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Evidence of scholarly research and contributions to scholarship.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working in inclusive early childhood special education settings;
- Knowledge of UHM special education teacher training programs;
- Experience with nontraditional university student populations from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
