Position Title : Shift Supervisor
Reports to : Operations Manager
Location : Washington, DC The Brooks
Hours : 4 pm to midnight. Some overtime may be required.
Classification : Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Friendship Place is a nonprofit organization serving the Washington, DC region. We empower individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness to rebuild their lives with the involvement of the community.
Our programs are person-centric and individualized to meet the needs of individuals, families, youth / young adults, and Veterans experiencing homelessness.
Summary :
The Brooks Program provides short-term housing services to families experiencing homelessness in the District. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the smooth operation of each shift and will be the primary point of contact for DHS and DGS during the shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides supervision and performance management of the Residential Aides.
- Oversees participants at the short-term family housing site and enforces program policies.
- Ensures a safe working environment for participants, employees, and visitors.
- Reviews and explains program rules during intake.
- Processes intakes according to the program’s rules and procedures.
- Maintains a daily log to record all activities and information.
- Provides de-escalation services to participants as needed.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for DHS and DGS on building matters.
- Ensures noise is kept at a minimum during the overnight shift.
- Ensures all staff remain awake and alert at all times.
- Reports any instances of pests to DGS.
- Submits all Unusual Incident Reports (UIR’s) in the appropriate timeframe.
- Coordinates meals delivery, storage, disposal, and distribution.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education / Experience :
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in a residential or shelter setting.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Experience with families and / or youth preferred.
Qualifications :
- General knowledge of working in a homeless shelter or residential facility preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Demonstrates empathy in responding to participant needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under stress.
- Punctual and able to work independently.
- Experience with computer programs, including Excel and email.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to mission and organizational core values.
Working conditions :
Office is housed in a short-term family housing facility.
Physical and Environmental Requirements :
Position will spend time between office settings and roving the occupied floors. Must be able to lift 25 lbs and walk 70% of the time.
Background checks :
The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Must have a valid government-issued ID and reliable transportation.
