Job Summary
Instruct courses in the SLCC Peace Office Certification Academy. Essential Responsibilities and Duties 1. Instruct courses prescribed by Utah Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) curriculum.
2. Prepare a lesson plan that covers the required course objectives.
3. Provide Classroom instruction that covers the required course objectives.
4. Provide feedback to students regarding course concerns.
5. Provide information to Training Supervisor regarding individual students progress, problems, concerns.
6. Maintain professional demeanor whenever in contact with students. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued 1. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization2.
Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments4.
Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades6.
Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance7. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines8.
Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment9. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy10.
Maintains professional and collegial behavior11. Handles / responds to student concerns / complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1 2 days)12.
Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and / or College procedure13. Completes all required employee trainings14.
Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines15. Provides ADA accommodations as requested Minimum Qualifications 1. Two years experience as a Criminal Justice.
2. Where needed, appropriate certification : Peace Officer, Corrections Officer, Firearms instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Radar instructor, SFST Instructor, BA / Intoxilyzer Instructor, & Post Certified Instructor, & agree to complete a POST instructor Development school within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications 1. 5 years experience as a Criminal Justice Professional.
2. Where needed, appropriate certifications : Peace Officer, Corrections Officer, Firearms instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Radar instructor, SFST Instructor, BA / Intoxilyzer Instructor, & Post Certified Instructor. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
