Job Title : Director - Player, Alumni and Community Relations Job Summary : The Royals are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic leader to serve as Director - Player, Alumni and Community Relations.

This is a leadership role within the Royals' Community Impact Department and is responsible for creating and executing a community outreach strategy for our players and their families, alumni and employees.

The Director - Player, Alumni and Community Relations will lead a team of three full-time staff to integrate our players, alumni and employees into the community, as well as create experiences and execute community events and activations on and off the field.

The Kansas City Royals Community Impact department exists to serve and unite our community through the power of sport. The department leverages the Club's unique assets and capabilities including charitable donations;

employee, player and alumni volunteerism and experiences; and our physical structures to make a positive and sustainable impact in KC and beyond.

The Department is comprised of three teams (Royals Charities, Urban Youth Academy and the Royals Hall of Fame / Ballpark Experiences) and works closely with the Sport Development team in Baseball Operations to grow the games of baseball and softball in our community.

Position Accountabilities / Responsibilities :

  • Lead strategy and oversee day-to-day operations of the Player, Alumni and Community Relations team, including managing and developing a diverse team of 2 FTEs.
  • Establishes and builds relationships with leaders and teams across baseball and business operations and collaborates with them to create and execute a community engagement strategy for players, alumni and employees.
  • Serves as primary Community Impact contact with the Clubhouse, players and alumni, ensuring alignment across all departments involved in executing player and alumni community activations including marketing, corporate partnerships, ticketing, communications, ballpark operations etc.
  • Oversees the successful planning and execution (logistics, staffing, scheduling etc.) of other community impact events and activations including the Buck Seat and Salute to Service, administering the MLB Commissioner's tickets program, MLB-led initiatives (e.

g., Jackie Robinson Day, Play Ball Weekend, Roberto Clemente Award etc.) and other community impact recognitions, activations and experiences - including those tied to corporate partnerships.

  • Builds strong relationships with community organizations to effectively collaborate and partner and lead strategy for meaningful events and experiences on and off the field.
  • Works with Clubhouse, Authentics and other business units to manage community impact inventory.
  • Oversees team that manages Royals Charities' social media handles and works closely with the brand and comms teams to ensure consistent and impactful press and social media coverage - with a focus on community activations involving players, alumni and employees.
  • Helps plan and execute annual fundraising events for Royals Charities including securing auction items and experiences.

Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required :

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred, and a minimum of 7 years in sports or entertainment-related field.
  • Prior experience working in sports philanthropy and with professional athletes, celebrities or VIPs.
  • Excellent people management skills and a passion for developing staff.
  • Proven track record leading successful events, activations and experiences with vendors and partners, preferably in the sports and entertainment fields.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills and proven experience managing budgets and tracking expenditures.
  • Experience leveraging social media and other outlets to amplify event and overall department messaging.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • A passion for the role sport can play to move communities forward.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekend and events

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 15 pounds
  • Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of workday
  • Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
  • Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
  • Must be comfortable navigating the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and / or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling

This role is a Full-Time, Exempt opportunity that is eligible for Company Benefits, 401K, and PTO. This role is expected to have a standard 40-hour work week.
