Position Summary

While collaborating with other service providers, the SLP will conduct assessments, provide recommendations, as well as organize and implement services for the students of KIPP Northern California Public Schools.

We offer a Speech Language Pathology team lead that can provide mentorship in the form of weekly one on one meetings, consultation, and support.

Being a part of a tight knit group of Speech Language Pathologists, SPLAs and CFs allows for meetings and consultation with the team on a scheduled bimonthly basis, as well as on an as needed basis.

Additional collaboration with multidisciplinary teams within the Special Education department also occur with regularity.

Lastly, financial support for CEUs is available.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience :

Ability to supervision SLPAs preferred

Appropriate California Credential authorizing service as a Speech Language Pathologist or Required Professional Experience (RPE) Temporary License

Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the administration of a Speech Language program.

Minimum two years of experience preferred AND / OR experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Knowledge of federal and state special education law and best practices for special education.

Bilingual (Spanish or Vietnamese) preferred.

Demonstrated success with students from educationally underserved areas.

Education :

M.A. or M.S. in Speech Language Pathology

Knowledge / skills required :

Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills.

Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations according to CA law and ASHA guidelines.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies.

Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Northern California Public Schools and our students.

Ability to travel within SF Bay Area with own transportation (mileage reimbursed beyond usual commute).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Individual Education Program Process

Appraise the speech and language needs of students to design and implement appropriate remediation, instructional plans and strategies.

Analyze assessment results to drive and inform instruction and Individual Education Program development.

Attend and serve as a member of the IEP team to determine eligibility of students.

Prepare thorough, accurate and legally defensible reports in a timely manner.

Explain the nature and purpose of assessment in an understandable manner to IEP team members.

Assist teams in the development of IEPs that address communication and literacy needs of students.

Develop a variety of instructional activities to meet the student's individual language and speech goals / objectives.

Ensure student achievement and progress towards IEP goals and adjust intervention strategies based on student performance.

Complete progress reports in accordance with KIPP Northern California Public Schools and school-specific guidelines.

Serve as case manager for speech-only students; develop IEP documents in accordance with federal, state, SELPA and KIPP standards, coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings, and ensure timelines are met.

Training / Consultation

Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to support students in general education classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student's core curriculum instructional needs.

Be willing to provide in the classroom support as needed.

Consult with special education and general education teachers, other KIPP personnel and parents to recommend intervention strategies to facilitate student communication and literacy achievement and to model scaffolding strategies.

Support and facilitate professional development activities and objectives for general education staff and school administrators as needed.

Counsel students, parents and other professional and paraprofessional personnel regarding the social and educational needs of the students within the speech language programs.

Develop parent education programs to assist parents in the understanding and remediation of speech language needs when appropriate.

Interpersonal and Agency Relations / Communications

Consult with community agencies, medical personnel, parents, and other professionals, and act as a liaison among these groups for children with communicative disorders.

Keep attendance records, computerized IEP records and all other records pertinent to the special education program for the state reports and program accountability.

Participate in KIPP Northern California Public Schools Professional Development Activities.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical : Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting.

Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting / carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.

Mental : Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and general alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental : School environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Frequent classroom / school environment and travel.

Classification

Full-time, exempt position, and follows a school-based calendar.

The salary range for this position is between $93,000 - $110,455 based on experience and licensure status.
