Job Summary :
The 6th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher will instruct a core language arts and social studies curriculum.
In addition, they will serve as a homeroom teacher, holding study hall and teaching a weekly social-emotional learning class called Life Skills.
A candidate for this role will also seek to establish a strong, affirming classroom culture that embodies the School’s Quaker values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Other duties include writing student reports, collaborating with students, colleagues, and families, attending meetings, and fulfilling other faculty duties, such as recess and lunch supervision.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, exemplified in their instructional practice and the cultivation of impactful relationships with students, families / caregivers, and colleagues.
Through a set of holistic and innovative instructional practices, they will adapt their teaching to fit the needs of their students.
Moreover, they will have sound pedagogical skills, highly developed writing and organizational skills, and a student-centered approach to teaching, steeped in inspiring students to think creatively and critically.

Core Duties / Responsibilities :
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice both in their teaching practice and in building relationships with students and other community members
Teach two sections of 6th grade language arts and social studies
Serve as a homeroom teacher, teaching their homeroom Life Skills and facilitating study hall and morning meetings
Attend meetings, proctor recess, and lunch duties according to a rotational schedule
Maintain a growth mindset and actively participate in faculty professional development and supervision, including observations and feedback conversations, with support from the Associate Head of School
Regularly review and update curriculum maps in partnership with grade level colleagues and the Associate Head of School
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School, such as occasionally chaperoning school events
Supervising and ensuring the safety of students at all times
Supporting student's social and emotional skills and growth
Required Skills / Abilities :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with Google Suite or related software
A comprehensive understanding of the field of education and a demonstrated willingness to explore and embrace new pedagogical practices, technologies, and developing trends
Exhibit a passion for teaching elementary and / or middle school aged children
Education and Experience :
Prior experience teaching elementary and / or middle school-aged children is highly preferred.
Prior experience teaching middle school social studies and language arts
Documented prior experience in a classroom / education setting, experience in independent and Quaker schools is highly desirable
A bachelor’s degree in a related educational field is required. An advanced degree is preferred but not required
Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching at the upper elementary level or middle school level
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
