Our investment team is seeking a driven Investment Analyst (Alpha and Funds Management) . This key role will play a contributing part in ensuring RIO fulfills its mission, vision, and values.
As the Investment Analyst (Alpha and Funds Management) , you will partner with the RIO Investment team to optimize investment performance.
A key aspect of this position is to assist senior leadership with the management of the public market portfolio’s exposures.
Key responsibilities include monitoring the public market portfolio, evaluating public market investment managers, conducting manager searches, rebalancing the portfolio and optimizing cash flows.
As the Investment Analyst (Alpha and Funds Management) , you will also identify strategic and tactical opportunities to enhance the State Investment Board’s portfolios.
To thrive in this role, you should have investment experience and credentials; other quantitative and risk management investment experience is preferred.
Effective communication and collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and public and private organizations are essential for this position.
Position reports to the Portfolio Manager of Alpha and Funds Management.
RIO is located in Bismarck, ND. This position is based in Bismarck, ND, and the successful candidate must reside within North Dakota.
Salary Range : $60,000 to $135,000 annually commensurate with experience. This role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive compensation plan based on performance.
You’ll need to have :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, or business (with an emphasis in investments, economics, finance, accounting, or related investment content), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and Excel.
- Prior internship or work experience in investment funds management.

- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A sophisticated understanding of investment vehicles, investment statistics / metrics, portfolio theory, capital markets and the investment process is desired.
- Experience working for an entity ( public agency or private corporation) that has a major investment program.
- A high degree of proficiency with windows-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, quantitative tools such as python programming language, risk and performance systems and concepts, and database management.
- Advanced excel skills.
- Knowledge and ability to use investment related software.
- CFA and other investment related credentials.
