Equipment Associate (SP VXD ORL)

Primary Duties : This position will be responsible for managing general equipment and laboratory support for the Orlando R&D site.

The position will be responsible for maintaining the equipment used in supporting R&D operations which will require general skills in performing maintenance and interfacing with external support functions such as Engineering and equipment vendors.

The position will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of equipment from installation, set up and execution of maintenance and / or calibration, and ultimately through decommissioning.

The position will be responsible for performing corrective and preventive maintenance on equipment where possible and interfacing with external support functions when the work requires specialized or vendor services.

The position will also manage the receiving dock for the site, including physical receipt, storage, and shipment of packages.

The position will support inventory management of laboratory supplies and laboratory cleaning. The position will also support health, safety, and environment (HSE) initiatives, and coordinate with HSE personnel to ensure facilities / equipment operate in a safe manner and activities involving service are safely performed in accordance with HSE protocols and safe plan of action programs.

The position will be responsible for interacting with laboratory management and personnel to ensure the needs of the site are met in a timely and efficient manner.

The position will also be responsible for collaborating with other colleagues at other R&D sites on best practices and expertise.

This position will work as a member of a Facilities and Equipment team, with a focus on the equipment related responsibilities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Perform dock management (package shipping / receiving) 6 times per day, or as needed, including completing DOT / IATA training.
  • Manage / perform equipment upkeep and cleaning, per defined schedules on approximately 150 pieces of equipment.
  • Update / maintain non-KSE equipment database.
  • Manage and / or perform preventive and corrective maintenance for 400 pieces of equipment and the associated instrumentation.
  • Maintain equipment operating instructions for 400 pieces of equipment.
  • Organize, inventory, and discard equipment to maintain a current inventory.
  • Coordinate the transfer of equipment between sites.
  • Responsible for reviewing new equipment requests, obtaining quotes, and coordinating installation of new equipment.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, including but not limited to, inclement weather, roof leaks, power outages, malfunctioning equipment, temperature alarms, and gas shortages, during and outside of normal business hours.
  • Perform daily and weekly lab cleanings in at least 8 labs.
  • Perform stocking of laboratory supplies (frequency will vary - ranging from daily to monthly - with Orlando Campus project workload).
  • Perform HSE activities, such as monthly checks on 2 safety showers, weekly checks on 8 eyewash stations, and monthly checks on 18 fire extinguishers.
  • Record and archive records for various activities in accordance with the company / site’s documentation practices.
  • Provide backup support to the Facilities Associate position, as needed.
  • Inform and guide decision making process with site senior leadership regarding facilities and equipment topics. Make prompt decisions up to an established threshold and consult with leadership for approvals when required.

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • 1+ years industry experience in laboratory support and equipment maintenance (Engineering, biology, or chemistry background is strongly preferred).
  • Exhibit clear communication (written and verbal) to act as a liaison between different groups / stakeholders, such as laboratory and maintenance personnel.

Written skills required to create clear and concise documents.

  • Demonstrate creative and abstract thinking Required to develop and implement innovative, creative and efficient solutions to issues.
  • Demonstrate a capacity to adhere to deadlines and deliverables : candidate must be goal driven to ensure project timelines are met, and to resolve issues in order to meet schedules when needed.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies :

  • Understanding of facilities and equipment in the pharmaceutical industry. Experience with testing laboratory facilities and equipment preferred.
  • Experience in biosafety practices and laboratory operations preferred.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
