Position Summary : The Estimator is responsible for determining which jobs to bid on, preparing and submitting bids, and maintaining strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities :
- Decide on job bids with the Vice President of Pre-Construction / Estimating.
- Prepare and submit bids per company policy.
- Create detailed job packages, including costs for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment rentals, and overhead.
- Maintain good relationships with customers, potential customers, and suppliers.
- Ensure all required bond and bid documents are requested and received.
Reporting Relationships :
- Reports directly to the Vice President of Pre-Construction / Estimating.
- Communicates effectively with the President, Vice Presidents, and Project Managers.

Requirements :
- Education : High school diploma required; a four-year college degree preferred. Equivalent experience may substitute for a degree.
- Experience : Minimum of 2 years in commercial plumbing estimating.
- Skills / Knowledge :
- Ability to calculate figures like discounts, interest, and proportions.
- Comprehend and interpret blueprints, technical journals, and legal documents.
- Strong management and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with job site safety requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical and Mental Demands :
- Body Positions and Movements : Sitting, standing, walking for long periods; dexterity in arms and hands; ability to climb stairs and navigate job sites.
- Body Senses : Excellent vision, color perception, and hearing.
- Strength : Ability to lift and move 10-50 pound containers occasionally.
- Mental : Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English; strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions :
- Primarily indoor, climate-controlled office with occasional visits to job sites in various weather conditions.
- Moderate noise levels in the office; potential loud noise on job sites.
Authority and Accountability :
- Authorized to manage and administer operations under this role.
- Set pricing guidelines, submit bids, set prices for change orders, and purchase necessary prints.
- Directly accountable to the Vice President of Pre-Construction / Estimating for job performance and bid preparation.
Responsibilities :
- Review blueprints and job specs to determine costs.
- Enter data to monitor job costs against estimates.
- Prepare detailed bid packages including overhead and profit.
- Maintain supplier and manufacturer contacts.
- Manage the bidding process for maximum efficiency and quality.
- Submit bids timely, ensuring proper profit levels.
- Maintain job file histories and bid success rates.
- Recommend improvements to sales and profitability.
- Avoid and discourage gossip and office politics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
