BronxWorks is hiring one (1) Controller for the Fiscal Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all accounting operations including disbursements (payroll & accounts payable), receivables, and general accounting
  • Ensures that payables are processed in a timely manner
  • Maintains an orderly, computerized accounting filing system
  • Ensures integrity of the general ledger and all balance sheet accounts
  • Ensures that account reconciliations are all up to date and that all balances are appropriately maintained
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure appropriate internal controls, and compliance with current and changing accounting standards and legal requirements applicable to financial governance.
  • Coordinates and executes month end close process
  • Oversees representative payee process
  • Maintains accounting for investment portfolio
  • Develops and maintains cost allocations
  • Responsible for preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Serves as key liaison for annual independent audits (including financial statement audit, pension audit, and A-133 / uniform guidance audit).
  • Prepares organization wide financial reports and analyses for internal use.
  • Works closely with the CFO on the development of the overall annual budget and monitors financial activity throughout the year, informing the CFO of potential issues.
  • Oversees development of estimates throughout the year as budgets vary.
  • Develops and oversees internal auditing function to ensure agency wide compliance with all accounting procedures.
  • Works closely with Director of Grants and Contracts in tracking and reporting grant activity.
  • Compiles financial metrics and measures metrics against prior year and nonprofit best practices
  • Oversees accounting for Citizens Advisory Bureau and Bronx Point HDFC
  • Prepares and / or liaises with tax advisory firm on preparation and filing of annual tax returns and state filings for BronxWorks, Citizens Advisory Bureau, and Bronx Point HDFC.
  • Oversees issuance of employment, contractor, and other tax documents and filings.
  • Prepares annual Consolidated Fiscal Report ( CFR ) and works with audit firm for CFR certification
  • Monitors cash flow and provides cash flow projections to the CFO in conjunction with the Grants and Contracts side of the financial department.

Makes recommendations as to cash needs over the course of the year and beyond.

Prepares financial reports as needed for Senior Staff and Board Finance / Audit Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred with current license in active standing
  • Min. 10 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Experience in non-profit finance
  • Impeccable ethical standards
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills : the ability to effectively liaise with colleagues
  • Ability to organize, motivate and supervise staff
  • Flexible work attitude : the ability to be flexible and yet focused & reliable in an environment of frequently changing demands
  • Strong Computer skills : facility with MS Office especially Excel required
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
