This is a Construction Safety Manager (Federal Project) position with a small company managed by a cohesive team of professionals that is looking to increase our capability.

This position earns a competitive wage of $80,000 - $100,000 / annual , depending on experience. We provide outstanding benefits , including an annual incentive bonus program;

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CONSTRUCTION SAFETY MANAGER (FEDERAL PROJECT)

The Construction Safety Manager (Federal Project) is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols on federal construction projects.

This includes ensuring compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations, conducting safety training and managing site safety inspections.

The Safety Manager (Federal Project) will collaborate with project management and field personnel to create a safe work environment and mitigate risks.

The following will provide a base for you to compare your experience and knowledge against. This list is not intended to be inclusive of the experience and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Safety Compliance :
  • Ensure that all safety procedures adhere to federal regulations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards and other relevant safety codes.
  • Interpret and enforce safety regulations specific to federal contracts, such as EM 385-1-1 (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual).
  • Site Safety Inspections :
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the construction site to identify potential hazards.
  • Document and report any safety violations or hazardous conditions.
  • Implement corrective actions to address identified safety risks.
  • Safety Training :
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs to all employees and subcontractors.
  • Ensure that all workers are adequately trained in safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency procedures and hazard communication.
  • Maintain records of safety training sessions and certifications.
  • Incident Investigation :
  • Investigate all accidents, injuries and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Prepare detailed reports of safety incidents and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Coordinate with federal agencies if required for incident reporting and follow-up.
  • Safety Program Management :
  • Develop and implement site-specific safety plans, including emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain and update the safety management system, ensuring all safety documentation is current and accessible.
  • Collaborate with project management to integrate safety into all aspects of project planning and execution.
  • Communication and Reporting :
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters on the project.
  • Communicate safety expectations and updates to the project team, subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit regular safety reports to federal agencies, project management and other relevant parties.
  • Regulatory Liaison :
  • Act as the liaison between the construction site and federal safety inspectors or auditors.
  • Ensure that all required safety documentation, such as permits, licenses and certifications, is available for review by regulatory authorities.
  • Stay informed about changes in federal safety regulations and update the safety program as necessary.
  • Risk Management :
  • Identify potential safety risks during project planning and construction phases.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, including the use of safety equipment, procedural changes or site modifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, construction management or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Successful prior track record as a safety manager on Federal government projects for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • In-depth understanding of federal safety regulations, including EM 385-1-1 and experience in implementing safety programs on federal construction sites.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials and legal regulations.
  • Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and agency specific regulations, including the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR).
  • Must be either a citizen of the U.S. or a non-U.S. citizen who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence as evidenced by a Permanent Resident Card (USCIS I-551).
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification, EM 385-1-1, USACE CQM certification and CPR / 1st Aid certification. Additional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) are highly desirable.
  • Ability to successfully pass and remain in compliance with required background checks from Tribal 1 and any required federal government background checks.
  • Must pass drug screen and remain in compliance with drug free workplace policies.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand or sit for long periods of time, access roofs, crawl spaces and all construction areas.
