Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse on the ICU assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous care for an assigned group of patients.
The Registered Nurse, RN, ICU is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The Registered Nurse, RN, ICU functions as a health team member through independent, interdependent, and dependent roles within the health care system.
Serving as the patient's advocate, the RN assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service.
Essential Functions :
Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Implements policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
- Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
- Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
- Fosters a healing environment for patients and families.
- Assumes responsibility and authority for establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and creating an individualized plan of care and evaluates patient's response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Integrates clinical reasoning and knowledge as the foundation for decision-making
- Balances patient's rights and organization's responsibilities in providing professional and ethical care
Grand View Health’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 14-bed unit that provides comprehensive care for patients with complex health problems.
The unit also cares for seriously ill or injured patients who require close observation and constant care.
Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Vocational diploma in Nursing And Over 6 months to 1 year as an acute care Registered Nurse, required
Critical Care Course, preferred
Licenses and Certifications :
Registered Nurse in PA Licensed, Upon hire, required
Basic Life Support, upon hire, required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, upon hire, required
