General Description :

The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for completing assigned warehouse duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction.

The Warehouse Supervisor does this by overseeing and supervising all warehouse teams in the completion of unloading, staging, picking, and loading of all products for shipment to customers.

The Warehouse Supervisor also directs the warehouse team in accomplishing specified tasks set by facility management and oversees the training of warehouse personnel aligned with warehouse protocol.

The Warehouse Supervisor completes these functions to support the distribution of dairy-related products.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for achieving assigned goals of warehouse, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
  • Oversee training of warehouse personnel in warehouse equipment, protocol, and systems (i.e. forklifts, inventory cycle counts, FEFO).
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and document control practices and filing of product movement within the warehouse (inventory).
  • Tour the warehouse floor to identify products for location, rotation, quality, code, and quantity.
  • Audit the work of warehouse personnel to ensure accuracy, quality, and work completed in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure completion of performance evaluations and merit increase forms and provide recommendations for pay adjustments, promotions, and disciplinary action while working with Warehouse Leads & Seniors.
  • Communicate with the Warehouse Manager on any potential or existing problems that could adversely affect the load schedule or customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct periodic warehouse walks to inspect products, racking, and equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks) for safety, damage, and / or shrink.
  • Monitor and coordinate daily orders and distribute them accordingly to warehouse personnel.
  • Assist incoming carriers and ensure all loading / unloading information is accurate.
  • Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments verbally and in writing.
  • Supervise the warehouse team by example to gain trust and integrity.
  • Handle employee inquiries and solve problems while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Foster an open door policy for all employees to maintain an open line of communication between direct reports and management staff.
  • Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities and begin to identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns.
  • Responsible for complying with GMP / GWPs, SOPs, corporate and / or warehouse policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides assistance and support to all areas in the warehouse facility as assigned by supervisor and trains and builds competence of staff on key areas in the warehouse such as forklifts, inventory control, FEFO, etc.
  • Covers breaks and lunches and other staffing needs as assigned by their supervisor / manager.
  • Compliant with all legal requirements concerning safety on their assigned shift and report concerns to their supervisor.
  • Works safely and reports safety concerns promptly to their supervisor / lead and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
  • Responsible for ensuring direct reports assigned duties and responsibilities are covered during planned and unplanned absences from work, including acting as a backup as necessary.
  • Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  • Maintain compliance with S.Q.F. certification and GWP expectations.
  • Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices.

Essential Knowledge, and Skills :

  • Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and knowledge of weights and measures, to sufficiently handle job tasks.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to basic to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  • Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  • Knowledge of the company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving each of them.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
  • Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  • Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC / code information.
  • Knowledge of general computer functions such as Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in all warehouse management systems and other systems.
  • Knowledge of warehouse procedures (Cycle counts and Inventory management.)
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and problems of operating business functions.
  • Skill to actively seek out and identify opportunities.
  • Ability to trust, develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to shape and express ideas and information in an effective and public manner through verbal presentations.

Education / Experience :

  • Minimum of GED or High School Diploma is preferred.
  • Direct warehouse experience of 4+ years is required.
  • Must be able to operate all PIT e.g. forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks (manual / electric.)

Performance Standards :

  • Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor / Manager after the occurrence.
  • Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
  • Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in business- and position-appropriate attire at all times including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  • Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule :

  • Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift.
  • Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor / Manager.
  • Hourly : Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required on assigned shifts and non-assigned shifts based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns :

  • Normally exposed to ambient warehouse temperatures, where possible exposure to hot, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions exists.
  • May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the distribution of food products including allergens.
  • May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the distribution and sanitation of a food warehouse facility.

Physical Job Requirements :

Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments.

Including the outside perimeter of the building.

  • Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  • Stand and / or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with a meal break.
  • Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.
  • Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights as well as work at heights.

  • The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets;

experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $28.50 to $37.00.
