This opportunity entails being responsible for interpreting client goals and program requirements needed to establish design goals and parameters for small to medium sized project assignments, and being available to work under the supervision of a Project Architect / Sr.
Project Architect on large projects. Serves as a resource to the project architect and project manager as the design is developed.
Responsible for communication of design concepts to client and project teams.
As a Project Designer at HNTB, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation-related projects, including related to rail stations and systems, highways, transit systems, potentially airports and other public and non-public facilities.
You will be responsible for coordinating with the project architect and other team members to develop design concepts and solutions that meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders.
You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with contractors, clients, and other professionals to ensure that quality projects are delivered on time and within budget.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in construction administration, including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and attending site visits.
In addition to the job description as defined below, you'll :
Participate in the design and documentation of transportation-related architectural projects, with a focus on longevity, construction feasibility and detailing
Work with project teams to develop design concepts and solutions, considering construction methods and materials specific to transportation projects and ensuring compliance with building codes, accessibility guidelines, agency and other requirements for various jurisdictions
Coordinate with other disciplines (structural, MEP, etc.) to ensure design integrity and compliance with codes and standards
Attend project meetings and coordinate with the project architect, other team members regularly, and with contractors and clients as needed
Assist in the development of construction documents, including drawings and specifications
Contribute to the development of project budgets and schedules
Assist in construction administration as needed, including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and attending site visits

What You’ll Do :
Provides interpretation of client’s goals and programs. Prepares design concepts consistent with client’s goals, budget and schedule.
Works closely with the project architect and project manager in planning and implementing all work processes in consideration of budgets and schedules.
Work includes preparing work plans, estimating hours to complete tasks, developing project reports, managing consultant team members (including coordination and incorporation of all work products) and reviewing invoices.
May work in conjunction with Sr. Designers as a part of the design team on larger projects.
Presents design concepts to clients and team members.
Serves as a subject matter expert on architectural projects of small to medium size and assists on larger projects.
Integrates quality control measures during all phases of design.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need :
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field and 6 years of relevant experience.
What We Prefer :
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited Architecture program, or qualification for an alternative licensure program
5 years of experience in architectural design and construction, with a preferred focus on transportation projects, including experience in the design of public, high-traffic facilities
Strong understanding of construction methods, building materials and detailing specific to transportation projects
Thorough understanding of building codes and accessibility guidelines
Ability to work independently, to make and take responsibility for recommendations and decisions
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant design software
Proficiency in additional software such as Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, Lumion, and other rendering software is a plus
Experience in construction administration
Experience with multiple project delivery methods is a plus, including feasibility studies, programming, bridging, design-bid-build, program management or others
Strong problem-solving skills, time management skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, collaboration skills, creativity, and flexibility
Ability to learn quickly across varied design projects and project delivery types
Demonstrated advancement in the AXP process and progress towards licensure is preferred
LEED certification a plus
