The Operating Room, Environmental Service Assistant performs miscellaneous tasks related to patient transportation and basic operating room functions
Multiple positions available Full Time and Part Time (Full Time - Monday thru Friday 3 : 00pm - 11 : 00pm)
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to :
- Ensure proper cleaning, preparation and setup of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment to be used during surgery
- Transport patients between care units, when needed
- Properly handle transporting and disposition of specimens and cultures
- Obtain blood products from Transfusion Services and responsible for return of unused products
- Assist staff with room turnover
- Operation of assigned cleaning machines and / or equipment
- Performs duties required for cleaning between cases, including removal of trash and soiled linens, cleaning furniture, making beds, cleaning floors, and light / socket covers in an efficient and timely manner
- All other assigned duties related to attending the operating room
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- 1 year of experience in an environmental service capacity or related experience
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS) must be obtained within 90 days of hire into the role
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to multitask and change priorities with short notice
- Effective communicator; Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Ability to understand instructions and learn risk and hazardous exposures related to cleaning products used
- High degree of responsiveness to changing schedules and priorities throughout the day
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This role will interact cordially and effectively with all patients, their family members, and OR Staff
Physical Capabilities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. There are extended periods of time standing and / or frequent walking.
Environmental / Working Conditions
This position is subject to indoor temperature changes. Work done intraoperative is performed in a high- risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
