Description
Under the general supervision and direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, systems, buildings, facilities and physical structures.
Responsibilities
- Uses safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions at all times.
- Wears safety shoes and other protective clothing and equipment as required.
- Plans and lays out work to accomplish their assigned job for maximum safety and efficiency.
- Must be able to understand, troubleshoot, install and repair relatively specialized industrial equipment throughout the plant, including pumps, motors, and conveying systems
- Safely inspects machinery and equipment while in operation for proper safeguarding, diagnosing faulty operation, making adjustments or repairs as necessary to keep the equipment in safe operating condition.
- Removes from service those machines which require major repairs, revisions or additions to machinery and reinstalls, including proper safeguarding.
- Operates, maintains, inspects, cleans, lubricates, and repairs equipment as necessary.
- May make repairs to systems under emergency conditions in order to maintain plant operations.
- Cuts, drills, taps, files, grinds, and fits all types of metal for fabrication, alterations, or repair to machines, building equipment, jigs and fixtures.
- Uses hand and power tools of all kinds and a variety of measuring and testing instruments in a safe manner.
- Read and interpret drawings and technical manuals
- Makes out work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed utilizing a computerized maintenance management system.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements as necessary.
- May operate mobile equipment, including fork lifts, manlift, crane, and carts.
- Works with other maintenance employees by performing any duties to get equipment back into operation in minimum time.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance departments in the development of new or updated processes.
Qualifications
Incumbent must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily and in a safe and manner. The items listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and experience required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and four years related experience and / or training; or any combination of education and experience at the supervisor's discretion.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- The individual must be able to use computer based software for data entry into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Trade or vocational school graduation preferred
- Knowledge of electrical equipment and control systems preferred
