Objective
The Assistant Estimator is responsible for the coordination and initial work on all bids and pricing of new projects, while remaining aligned with strategy, commitments and goals of the organization.
Essential Functions
- Communicate with General Contractors, Engineers, Owners, and Developers during the bid process
- Solicit subcontractor and / or supplier information and pricing.
- Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative.
- Builds relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers that reflect and support company core values.
- Computer literate with knowledge in AGTEK, Microsoft Office (Especially Excel and Word), and Oman Systems.
- Possess strong mathematical skills including algebra and trigonometry.
- Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
- Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
- Functions effectively as part of a team
- Exhibits strong leadership qualities
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
- Strong decision making / problem solving skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Pick up plans ordered from Alabama Graphics
- Visit jobsites as required in order to price the work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Building Science, Civil Engineering, or equivalent preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Field Experience, work as an estimator and experience managing projects.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and strong organizational skills.
- Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Leadership skills above the norm, strong character, individual integrity.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills. Ability to tailor style to the audience as appropriate.
