Job Overview

The Global Operations Technology (Global Ops Tech) is responsible for the systems that enable Coupang to reliably fulfill customer orders in a Fulfillment Center within hours of order placement.

The Global Ops Tech Organization is on a mission to innovate by building an efficient FC ecosystem that operates at breakthrough scale and speeds.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate engineering leader that can drive direction on technology, successfully champion align with other tech leaders and stakeholders, influence and build trust with teams, and execute delivery of complex systems considering scalability, future extensibility, and reliability.

The desired candidate will help lead Global Ops Tech Picking team build systems that drive the overall process and workflow of Coupang's fulfillment systems.

This work will not only include designing and building world-class systems, but also drive adoption of advanced technologies in terms of innovation and process optimizations.

The work will result in increased efficiencies in operations that allow Coupang to offer even faster fulfillment times, more coverage and capacity, at lower cost.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a bright and self-driven leader to help drive and build Coupang’s fulfillment systems by leading a group of talented engineers within the Picking and Package Engineering Organization.

As the leader of the team, you will :

• Be a key player for strategic planning, driving execution, team development, operation and product improvement.
• Evaluate and analyze business requirements and user needs and translate requirements into technical specifications for robust, scalable, supportable solutions.

Lead developing software solutions working on complex issues requiring advanced evaluation of variable factors, utilize professional concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways, design and customize software to optimize operational efficiency in cloud-based environments.

Participate in the full development cycle, end-to-end, from conception, design, implementation and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.

Provide feedback on architecture and design issues, and recommend changes in development, maintenance and system standards.

• Effectively collaborate with business teams on product ideas. Not only know how to solve problems, but how to coach engineers to do better than you in building the solutions.
• Have a proven track record of building high-performing engineering teams, passionate about customers, and enjoy the work that demands creative thinking and a deep understanding of the problem space.

Qualifications :

• A deep understanding of software development in a team, software development methodologies and scheduling, a track record of shipping software on time, services development, and people management to this high-accountability role.
• 10+ years leading or managing software development teams, strong technical credentials, and hands-on architectural or distributed systems experience.
• Experience building, managing, and working with international teams. Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate proven technical leadership.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or the equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. High on bias for action.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Master’s degree in Computer Science strongly preferred.
• Can quickly build technical credibility.
• Smart about choosing between fast and right.
• Development experience in OOP, Java, JavaScript Frameworks (Node, Angular, React), XML, Web services.

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $171,000 / year in our lowest geographic market to $351,000 / year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on several factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
