Position Summary :

Brain injury focused psychotherapy is a short-term, neuroscience informed therapeutic intervention. The goal is to work with clients on a temporary basis to provide remediation to help them feel confident in accessing psychological services in their community and ensure they gain maximum benefit and the best chance of succeeding with their treatment goals.

The Psychotherapist provides direct clinical services to persons living with brain injury including brain injury focused psychotherapy, psychoeducational and therapy groups, and clinical consultation with Brain Injury Services staff and other providers.

The Psychotherapist is responsible for providing clinical services via telehealth technology, conducting psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans based on client expressed priorities, guiding the treatment process, developing exit plans including appropriate referral to community-based therapists if needed, providing psychological and emotional support to clients, adhering to client confidentiality standards, communicating with referral sources and program staff, facilitating treatment groups, generating assessment reports and tracking care through progress notes.

The psychotherapist will participate in program staffing as appropriate and provide support and consultation to program staff around mental health and therapeutic relationships along with consultation to community psychotherapists as needed.

The Psychotherapist supports persons living with brain injury and their families in achieving optimal, timely and durable outcomes as well as ensures customer satisfaction and outcome attainment without discrimination by race, creed, culture, or financial resources.

Essential Functions :

  • Provide direct brain injury informed psychotherapy treatment, conduct biopsychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, guide the treatment process, provide joint psychotherapy sessions and consultations with family members as appropriate, develop exit plans and support successful referral to long-term care if needed and provide psychological and emotional support for clients.
  • Reviews medical information and other pertinent records provided, and requests needed documents and records.
  • Acts on behalf of the program participant and organization as to privacy of medical and social information.
  • Assesses to identify status, needs, and resources in life domains and evaluate through objective and subjective reports from participants, effectiveness of what has been utilized in the past.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets psychological / neuropsychological assessments within appropriate scope of education, expertise and licensure and provides detailed behavioral observations.
  • Generates background information and assessment results for assessment reports.
  • Facilitates psychoeducational and / or therapy groups as needed.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and observes measures to ensure CARF and other quality standards and regulations are met.
  • Uses appropriate technique in performing duties to avoid or minimize accidents and injury related to unsafe practice.
  • Maintains accurate records and charting of participant files ensuring that client documentation is completed in a timely manner.

Provides regular statistical reporting as required and within the bounds of confidentiality regulations.

  • Manages caseload by ensuring that authorizations for treatment services are received, schedules sessions with clients, requests authorization for additional sessions as needed and provides all supporting documentation required for billing.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support for the provision of other program services and offer appropriate input on mental health in client staffing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Licenses, or Certifications :

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of psychology, marriage and family counseling or social work.
  • Must be licensed as Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or be licensed at the entry level and eligible for full licensure after the required period of professional supervision.
  • Successful candidates are expected to become certified as a Brain Injury Specialist after one year of experience.
  • Ability to utilize secure video conferencing technology to deliver telehealth services.

Experience :

Experience working with persons living with brain injury and their families and an understanding of the challenges inherent in navigating post-acute private and public sector systems of support as well as managing barriers from a consumer or advocate perspective is preferred.

Experience in healthcare, neuropsychology and / or rehabilitation is recommended.

Salary : Ranges between $62,000-$65,000 depending on the experience.

Work schedule :

This is a remote position that requires flexibility to meet program participant needs, which may include some weekend or evening hours.

Quarterly in-person team meetings may be required and are held in Easterseals Crossroads headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.
