Sr. Software Engineer (Health)

23andMe’s Core Engineering team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join our Health team. This is the team that develops our consumer-facing Health product, including the first and only FDA-approved direct-to-consumer report on the BRCA gene, and the world's first direct-to-consumer polygenic risk report for Type 2 Diabetes.

Working with 23andMe's scientific researchers, and using 23andMe's unique genetic and phenotype database, we are unlocking health-related insights from the genetic code, communicating that insight to customers, and innovating new ways to help our customers apply those insights to live healthier lives.

You will guide and design compelling new features, and contribute innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems to make those features real and perform.

What You'll Do

• Quickly learn our existing infrastructure and processes for Health and the consumer-facing product, including AWS, Python (Django), and JavaScript (React)
• Deliver secure, high-quality and testable code on time
• Collaborate with product, design and engineering teams on the strategic vision for our product roadmap
• Thoughtfully decompose functional and technical requirements into clean architectures and designs
• Design and build delightful and engaging consumer-facing experiences that help customers understand their results and take action toward living healthier lives
• Design APIs for cloud applications
• Drive technical excellence through code and design reviews
• Evolve and improve existing backend systems to support our ambitious product roadmap
• Mentor other engineers and become an important part of the tapestry of our engineering culture

What You'll Bring

• BS in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 6 years real-world, industry experience building, delivering and maintaining production quality code
• Experience with Python or a similar language and a full-stack web application framework
• Track record of delivering high-quality, scalable consumer applications
• Understanding of web security and cryptography concepts
• A team player attitude with comfortability operating in a highly collaborative environment
• Passion for scalable high-quality software and excellent user experiences
• Willingness to learn, lead, mentor and take responsibility

Pay Transparency

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

These ranges may be modified in the future.
