Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer - EV Charging to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT.
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design of new electrical products from concept to production, evaluation of third-party designs, and technical support of mature products.
Working individually or as part of a design team to develop, evaluate, and validate product designs, specifications, design reviews, documentation packages, preproduction builds, and transfers to production.
Provides guidance and support to engineering team members within the discipline and across disciplines.
What Will You Do?
- Manage company technology research and development initiatives.
- Lead investigations of emerging technologies, providing insight into better and more advanced products, features, and benefits for customers.
- Design, build, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical components, sub-assemblies, and products, using schematic capture and PCB layout programs, various digital and analog test equipment, ensuring that the design specifications are met or updated, as necessary, to reflect changing requirements and / or design realities.
- Liaise with software development teams and external contractors to ensure software and hardware compatibility.
- Provide support to the marketing function, assist with product design requirements, review competitive products, assist with reviewing technical literature, and help with determining our customer's product needs.
- Support and advise on products' environmental impact and provide data that ensures they meet the Legrand Way for socially responsible products.
- Coordinate new designs and design changes with engineering, CAD, technical writing, test engineering, and production, ensuring that the product and customer documentation are correct and current.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Masters in Electrical Engineering is preferred
Experience :
4 to 7 years of experience in engineering, project leadership, and product development of PCB design for low and high-voltage applications.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities :
- Must have sound technical knowledge and design skills. Must be able to apply logical or scientific thinking principles to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Must possess a willingness to learn and adapt to new developments and advancements in electronic design to stay competitive and innovative.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities are required.
- Must have strong analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.
- Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software, e-mail, and meeting management software.
Ability to use the internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
Must possess excellent project management skills, including the demonstrated ability to develop and manage a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and control several projects at various stages of work.
Must understand the implications of product costing to ensure business goals are met.
Required Skills
Expertise in power electronics, including knowledge of converters, inverters, rectifiers, and power semiconductor devices.
Knowledge of electric vehicle charging systems is desirable.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations governing EV charging systems, such as SAE J1772, IEC 61851, and UL 2202, is necessary to ensure the charger's compliance and safety.
- Ability to perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)
- Design and develop hardware architectures and embedded systems for IoT and
- Wireless Network devicesExperience in designing and implementing low-power & battery-operated boards.Experience developing digital and analog mixed circuits for sensors, measurement, communications, and power management.
Design digital, microprocessor-based circuits.Design AC / DC power conversion circuits, relay switching, and power monitor circuits.
Understanding and application of Wi-Fi hardware and design,Understanding of Cloud-based applications.Firmware development.
- Understanding of USB & USB-C Power Delivery for charging devicesDirect the discussions of power supply design.Recommend and define the differences in IC chip options.
- Perform firmware validation testing to ensure performance to product requirements.
- Understanding of National Electric Code and UL Standards.
- Develop and perform validation testing to ensure hardware system designs meet technical requirements as needed.Evaluation, including preparing for agency testing (FCC, UL, ETL, CE, Develop specifications and equipment needs for production systems.
- Develop project plans, identify key milestones, risks, and develop time estimates for each milestone to complete the project.
Provide input to the team for project development phases pertaining to electronic items.
- Circuit or schematic design required.Experience in Altium preferred or one of the major PCB design CAD tools.Convey circuit design and intent to offshore teams.
- Assist in documenting and writing detailed product technical specifications.Use of SolidWorks helpful.
- Work with vendors for electronics manufacturing of devices.Interface with other Legrand teams to recommend best fit.
