Marine Biologics is a biomaterials business designing industrial compounds from macroalgae. We are working to build new chemical supply chains to meet the demands of the bioeconomy.
Our first product brings together curated compositional data, formulation simulations, and green processing tech to create new macroalgae-based ingredient systems for the food & beverage industry.
Senior Data Scientist
Marine Biologics, Inc. is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to lead the development of a robust data architecture that will streamline and accelerate the development of new applications derived from macroalgae extracts.
You will work closely with R&D and product development teams to ensure that the data infrastructure is capable of handling large-scale datasets, advanced analytics, molecular modeling, and machine learning models to drive innovation and reduce time to market.
Your role will be critical in managing and leveraging data from extract characterization, lab testing, and formulation trials to guide ingredient design and development.
Responsibilities
The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for the following tasks :
- Data Architecture Design - Lead the design and implementation of the data architecture, ensuring efficient storage, management, and retrieval of data.
- Data Integration - Develop pipelines to collect, process, and integrate multi-dimensional datasets, including extraction protocols, chemical profiles, bioactivity data, and sensory evaluations of macroalgae extracts.
- Advanced Analytics - Apply statistical modeling from large datasets, enabling faster screening of new extracts and predicting potential applications for food applications.
- Instrumentation and Measurement - Manage instrumentation and equipment for data intake.
- Data Visualization and Reporting - Develop dashboards and visualization tools to communicate insights.
Compensation
Full-time, market rate.
Location
Flexible. California or France preferred.
Qualifications
- Education : MSc or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience : 5+ years of experience, ideally within foodtech, biotech, materials, or a related industry.
- Technical Skills :
- Proficiency in Python, R, or other programming languages for data science and machine learning.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases for managing complex datasets.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Industry Knowledge - Food & beverage industry is highly desirable.
- Communication Skills - Ability to explain complex data-driven insights in a concise manner.
