Primary Purpose
To assist teacher / supervisor in providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Develop and implement individualized plans for specially designed instruction for students to develop competencies and skills to maximize opportunities, independent living, economic self-sufficiency and full participation in society.
Qualifications
Education / Certification :
- High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Eligible for appropriate paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Ability to use multi-media equipment, materials and computer technology
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Proficiency in oral and written communication

Major Responsibilities and Duties :
Program Management
- Check and record student attendance.
- Reproduce and distribute instructional materials.
- Assist in the modification of instructional materials.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially taught by the teacher.
- Collect and record data related to students’ IEP objectives and educational plans.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers.
- Perform the following personal hygiene functions when assigned per students’ needs : bathing / cleaning; clothes changing;
diapering; feeding; maintaining facial hair; maintaining menstrual hygiene; maintaining nasal hygiene; and toileting and / or toilet training.
- Supervise students during community-based instruction.
- Assist in the pre-vocational training of students prior to employment; this includes in-classroom activities and community-based instruction.
- Provide direct instruction to the students in the performance of job duties in the work environment during work hours.
- Monitor progress and intervene wherever necessary to help retraining or potential advancement.
- Communicate and follow up with employer concerning student job performance / needs.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors :
Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture : Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion : Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting : Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment : May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors.
This position includes work in community settings, such as restaurants, retail stores, hotel buildings, etc., and may include outdoor community settings.
Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
