Land Systems : Senior Systems Engineer
Saab Inc., Land Systems division is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer with emphasis on smart weapon systems, specifically in the field of unmanned systems (UxS) and Counter-UxS.
The candidate will work in a rapid and dynamic growing division environment. The results-oriented candidate should be capable of solving complex problems, improve company’s products and processes, lead technical teams and provide technical oversight to less seasoned engineers.
The candidate will work closely with the project and program leadership, business development and capture teams, engineering leadership and teams across businesses and locations.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, developing C-UAS solutions, responding to requests of information (RFI) and proposals, and active assistance with current programs and efforts.
Travel is required, both domestic and international. Currently the position is remote home office with travel; relocation may be required to the future facilities’ location, at this time TBD.
Required responsibilities Include :
Understand, define, develop, and decompose threat, mission, employment and product requirements based on limited customer inputs, existing product (including commercial and off-the-shelf) availability and division strategies.
Evaluate industry standards, applications, trends and languages against division strategies and team needs. Decompose and flow down typical defense and aerospace industry standards and requirements, relevant to specific efforts.
Develop and flow down specific system test and evaluation plans, including evaluation criteria, needed resources, suppliers, facilities and budgets.
Understand and implement system architecture, design, integration and test of UxS systems, including UAS and Counter-UAS systems.
Work with program leadership, engineering, operations, business development, program capture, supply chain, quality, finance, security, export control and other functions to provide technical oversight to product development and production.
Interface with existing and potential customers, such as US Government, academic, and industry partners to identify the most feasible initiatives and solutions in C-UAS and C-UxS fields.
Work closely with existing products’ design authorities and jointly generate the best solution for given problems, as well as communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and teammates.
Lead small teams of engineering development, integration, and demonstration.
Contribute to proposal efforts, whitepapers, RFI responses, technical volume generation, estimates and reviews.
Actively assist with other division and inter-division efforts.
Contribute to professional development of less seasoned engineers.
Compensation Range : $108,000- $137,700
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education / training.
Skills and Experience :
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 8 years of experience in related field; or Master of Science in Engineering and 6 years of experience.
Considerable hands-on experience with unmanned weapon systems (UAS, missiles, munitions, and platforms in land, sea, and air domains) concepts of operation, design, manufacturing, integration, test, production, and life cycle sustainment.
Working experience with DoD, academia and industry engineering processes, procedures, requirements, tools, and practices.
Working knowledge of specifications and requirements development, decomposition, flow-down, interface definitions, and requirements verification through demonstration and test.
Effective communications with leadership, subordinates, and peers, both domestically and internationally.
Self-starter, working with minimum direction.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD clearance (Secret minimum, active clearance preferred).
International and domestic travel is required, at least 30%.
Desired Qualifications :
Experience and / or education in mechanical and aerospace engineering, including propulsion and flight.
