Job Title : Transition Center Skills Trainer

Reports To : Works Program Coordinator

FLSA Status : Nonexempt, Hourly

Standard Hours : 6 : 00 am 2 : 45 pm

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Work Programs Coordinator, the Transition Center Skills Trainer will be responsible for providing assessment of the participants’ skills and interests as it relates to the program.

Provides training and support at a level necessary for program participants to be successful in completing the program and transition to the apprenticeship phase and / or direct hire.

This position is very interactive and requires the Transition Center Skills Trainer to be on their feet standing and / or walking for most of the time spent with participant (see physical requirements).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides individualized support for participants at the host business training center which includes : skills training, building natural supports, identifying job accommodations, assistive technology, etc.

Communicates effectively with Work Programs Coordinator & other Arc of Madison County Personnel, TMMAL employees & personnel, ADRS personnel & family members as needed.

Perform specific job analysis, task analysis, situational assessments and other assessment activities as needed.

Carries out steps of job coaching skills plan(s) with participants as appropriate.

Work with participants, Arc of Madison County personnel, families, ADRS personnel, TMMAL personnel and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to training and employment.

Practices positive reinforcement techniques with participants as well as demonstrates a positive attitude, respect for others and commitment to Teamwork.

Trains participants in the areas of grooming, good hygiene, communication, interviewing and behavior as they related to successful employment.

Participates in decision making process to identify and implement training strategies and / or services with Work Programs Coordinator, ADRS counselor and TMMAL employees to ensure participant success.

Communicates with Work Programs Coordinator and ADRS counselor to make final decisions regarding any issues that may affect participant success.

Attends training, as assigned, to become knowledgeable of strategies and current best practices in the field of supported employment.

Performs quality control checks to ensure product is completed and correct as specified.

Communicates to appropriate TMMAL personnel when parts are needed and / or for all production / assembly issues.

Provide support needed for parts to be placed on pallets.

Support Kaizen (Continuous Quality Improvement) with attention to detail and commitment to following standardized work to maintain the highest level of quality standards.

Adheres to and promotes standard of the Arc of Madison County, Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama in order to promote safety, productivity and successful employment.

Report regularly to supervisor on program participant status.

Complete and submit all required reporting forms, including hours worked in a timely manner.

Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Arc of Madison County as well as those of other agencies involved as relevant to the program.

Recognizes and acts on the legal responsibilities concerning safety and welfare of program participants.

Participates in professional growth activities as assigned, to include Arc of Madison County orientation and annual training, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Safety & Kaizen training

Be punctual and in attendance at work as scheduled in order to ensure and maintain client safety and wellbeing at all times

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

Degree in related field preferred, but not required. GED or High School diploma required. Experience working with individuals who have development disabilities (or similar experience is strongly preferred).

The ability to maintain First Aide and CPR certification. Valid Driver’s license. Ability to perform duties in a variety of settings, including professional situations, manufacturing plants, and other sites as identified.

Must have computer skills, including word processing, excel and database. Successful completion of Customized Employment training.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Depends wholly on the settings in which training of program participant is to take place. Each site may have a variety of factors that should be knowledge, including variable noise and dust levels, varying temperatures, lighting and ground surfaces.

PPE is required to be worn-steel toe shoes, safety glasses, long sleeves, long pants, hard hat.
