The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing psychiatric medication services to patients, many of whom experience co-occurring mental health and substance use related concerns.
This position collaborates with and supports the multidisciplinary mental health team to ensure a patient-focused, harm reduction, and trauma-informed approach to care.
As part of the essential functions of this role, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- Ensures the timely completion of admission assessments, required psychiatric assessments, psychiatric, substance use, and medical histories and follow ups, lab testing, as required by state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and sound medical practice.
- Reviews appropriate lab results as well as medical documentation from internal and external providers and manage each patient according to their individual needs.
- Prescribes and titrate the appropriate dosage of medications.
- Screens patients for common psychiatric, substance use, and / or medical co-morbidities and evaluate co-existing conditions and the implications on the patients care / needs.
- Writes medical orders based on the individual needs of the patient and sign off on all medical orders within 72 hours.
- Adheres to program expectations and requirements surrounding productivity, documentation timelines and standards, and overall quality of patient care.
- Works within an integrated treatment model coordinating treatment with both internal and external providers as indicated.
- Will serve as a role model for positive, warm, welcoming, productive, and cooperative relationships with staff and clients.
- Adheres to Office of Mental Health (OMH) regulations and Evergreen Health policy and procedures including regulatory timeframes on clinical documentation using an electronic medical record system.
- Collaborates and support the team members to ensure a patient-focused approach to care.
- Attends and participates in case conference, center meetings, and program initiatives as requested or required.
- Enters data timely and accurately to promote patient care delivery and participates in ongoing QI / QA activities and training to improve patient experience and increase data quality where needed.
- Maintains and protects sensitive information in enterprise systems and uses / shares data in compliance with Information Governance and Security Policies.
- Other duties as requested.
- Qualified Candidate will have current license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State; be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in nursing;
- have successfully completed a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner training program (as part of a degree program or as approved by the New York State Education Department);
- be certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (by the American Nurses Association or other approved certifying agency);
and, as of March 1, 1996, be certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by the State of New York or be eligible for certification.
Candidate must have current BLS and CPR certifications, experience utilizing EMR software (Medent, preferred) and experience working with people living with HIV / AIDS, Hepatitis C and trans population preferred.
Sensitivity toward cultural diversity, people living with HIV / AIDS and lifestyle and addiction issues essential.

Required license(s) : NP, FANP, BLS, CPR also must have X-Waivered / willing to obtain X-waiver within the first 90days of employment
