Academic Advisor Location : Lakewood, CO, Hybrid Target Salary : $40,000- $50,000 per year Target Fill Date : August 12, 2024
Job Purpose
The Academic Advisor position promotes the success of students and their work toward graduation by providing accurate and timely customer service.
Duties include engaging with students, relaying accurate information, and maintaining student files. The Academic Advisor is responsible for meeting established metrics in each area of responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain budgets for retention and graduation
- Understanding and advising students on academic policies and their corresponding forms and standard operating procedures
- Proactive student outreach Regular outreach to student cohort for retention and relationship building Transition support and onboarding to new RMCAD students Recognition and praise for exemplary students and milestone progress Intentional focus to connect with the entire student population every semester, surpassing industry standards
- Reactive student outreach Reengage nonattendance students in a timely manner according to deadlines Provide comprehensive withdrawal counseling and reentry application Respond to faculty requests for student outreach (ANCHOR Flags)
- Work in conjunction with the Office of the Registrar to understand students' schedules Manage accurate scheduling preferences in student files Utilize provided resources to forecast course availability trends Calculate estimated completion timelines based on credits completed and remaining
- Connect students with co-curricular resources such as Student Learning Center, Student Accessibility Services, Career + Alumni Services, Student Life, and more
- Understand and communicate a base level of post-secondary student financial concepts and programs
- Abide by FERPA regulations
- Report into the Colorado campus at least twice a week to attend on-site staff and student meetings, trainings, and events, as well as support the campus students and the Advising Team by staffing the Palette office and presenting in student orientations.

Qualifications
- Customer and Personal Service Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Clerical Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- CampusVue / Nexus experience preferred by not required
Education
- Education : Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience : Two years enrollment, admissions, or advising experience
Supervisory Responsibilities
Position is non-supervisory.
Working Environment and Conditions
- Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
- Frequent computer use at workstation, up to eight hours per day.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Attendance and punctuality.
- Mobility within the office. Ability to walk, sit, stand and climb stairs. Ability to use hands and fingers, to handle office equipment, records and files.
Occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read and discern written errors on paper and electronic documents.
Ability to talk and hear. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical requirements
The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand;
walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
