Position Summary
Implement child development programming based on individualized assessments of preschool and school age children with an emphasis in overcoming developmental delays with the support of parents and community resources.
Essential Function
Facilitates and provides guidance for developmentally appropriate learning activities under the direction of the Children and Family Education Coordinator.
Activities may be in individual or group format.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with parents, including assisting with orientation and providing daily feedback.
- Perform individual assessments of children's abilities.
- In conjunction with the Coordinator, develop and implement lessons plans and daily activities.
- Document and collect skill samples in accordance with state Desired Results forms, for use in children’s assessments, evaluations and lesson plans;
maintain a portfolio on each child.
- Participate as needed in individual service plan meetings with parents in the Residential Care Facility for the Chronically Ill.
- Ability to teach / guide / oversee preschool and school-age children in the Child Development Center. Ability to organize and facilitate Parent Co-op groups, providing parents with items of accountability for follow-up and implementation at home.
- Ability to organize weekly teen group meetings; may be educational or edu-recreational in nature.
- Maintains and sets up indoor and outdoor environment conductive to specialized learning for children attending.
- Observe the behavior and health of children continually throughout the period of attendance; provide and promote appropriate guidance and discipline techniques to children.
- Cleans up classroom and playground after activities.
- Assists Coordinator in keeping accurate program records and documents accordingly.
- Participates in center-wide planning, facilities use, and program coordination.
- Maintains current knowledge regarding research and practices in Early Education and Family Studies.
- May assume responsibilities of Coordinator in his / her absence.
- Complete and maintain Protect the Mission training (The Salvation Army Child Safety Program)
- Ability to drive children and youth in company vehicle for fieldtrips and transportation from school.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Immediate Supervisor
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as classroom and playground equipment, and reach overhead.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. This position requires employee to be vaccinated from Covid-19 .
Minimum Qualifications
- 60 units in Child Development / Early Education
- CD Site Supervisor Permit Required within 1 month of hire.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
- Employment contingent upon passing FBI / DOJ / Criminal Record Clearance Background Check
- Valid California driver license.
- Completion of driver safety training and Motor Vehicle Record check.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Able to work with children ages 0-12 years of age.
- Ability to develop activities designed to overcome developmental gaps or delays.
- Able to speak, read, and write English and Spanish fluently.
- Knowledge of child development conditions related to household instability (homelessness, addiction, chronic illness).
- Education and advocacy skills to support parent participation in child development center.
