Position Description Title : Program Engineering Manager Company : Katayama Manufacturing Limited (KML) Division : Program Management Office (PMO) Directly Reporting to : KML PMO Manager Overall responsibilities and duties :
As a Program Engineering Manager (PEM) at Katayama Manufacturing Limited, you will play a pivotal role in driving the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex programs.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are completed within scope, on time, and within budget.
Your ability to lead, communicate, and strategize will be essential in achieving organizational goals and maintaining our reputation for excellence.
The main missions of the role are :
Scope of work & time frame.
- Responsible for managing development programs for KML in the Americas and support of global development programs as needed.
- Begin with concept design received at program kick off to Start-Of-Production and support of serial production engineering as needed.
- Build the internal development schedule to match with the customer master schedule and industrialization / purchasing constraints.
- Reporting : Monthly (or as needed) report summary on program KPI’s, including risk and opportunities with corresponding action plans.
Product development.
- Lead the team in analyzing requirements and developing program compliance matrix.
- Lead the team in making the functional analysis, DFMEA, defining the key characteristics and support the PFMEA.
- Track all program issues.
- Manage change through the KML change control process.
- Responsible for risk management using program management principals.
- Ensure robust design with compliance to product / process design standards.
- Manage cross-functional reviews.
- Ensure the feasibility of the design is in line with best practices and KML standards & guidelines.
- Support tool specifications in collaboration with manufacturing / tool engineering. Manage and approve tool design release through the tool launch process, involving KML / KACI tooling and manufacturing engineering teams.
- Define and receive approval from manufacturing engineering / operations to ensure that product will comply with the KML production standards.
- Develop & deliver robust tools / CAPEX to operations with optimized cycle time at expected quality level (capability), in line with the targeted PPM and scrap level
- Manage the release of documentation for the plant (instruction sheet, process data sheet, rework / mockup instructions.
- with support of the pre-production build team.
Validation.
- Lead the program team in defining the Design Validation Plan (DVP)
- Lead the program team in guaranteeing successful DVP : virtual validation (CAE) or prototype validation
- Lead the program team in completing successful PV testing.
- Support development of process capability (CPK)
Cost Control.
- Lead the program team in compliance with budget goals and negotiate internal ECR’s with both external and internal customers.
- Lead the program team in identifying all product changes with the goal to reach design to cost and VAVE objectives.
- Ensure that product target costs meet the program requirements.
Customer relations.
- Support the program team in order to achieve the profitability objectives of the program, especially in negotiations with the customer.
- Leads the external SLI / PDCA for problem-solving with the customer.
- The PM is the primary KML representative to the customer.
People management & development.
- Ensure good communication within the extended program team, production plant, offshore development sites, and support teams as well as sub suppliers of engineering services, tooling and BOPs.
- Supports the professional development of the program team.
- Formally release / approve the design data that are given to the customer.
- Implement KML standards and manage potential conflicts with customer’s standards.
- Validate the product and process to reach Production Part and Process Approval (PPAP) on time and in compliance with OEM and legal requirements.
- Manage the program team-members functionally (including senior product design engineers (SPDE), program engineers (PE).
- Coach & follow-up with team-members to reach performance goals.
- Final decision maker for ALL decisions related to the program.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have :
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and / or significant professional experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive development, preferably in metal forming.
- Program management experience preferred.

- Strong understanding of financial principals
- English required; customer’s language strongly preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills
