Under the supervision of the PI and the Clinic Manager, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with coordination of multiple study protocols for a clinical research lab within the Department of Medicine.

Responsibilities will include assisting with coordination and oversight of outpatient study subjects with veteran related health conditions or subjects with drug adverse effects.

These responsibilities include : start up procedures, study implementation, recruitment, subject screening, enrollment, and maintenance of subjects throughout multiple studies within the lab.

Responsible for assisting with data collection, ensuring protocol compliance, reporting of adverse drug reactions and follow-up of those events with the Principal Investigator, laboratory and specimen handling (blood & urine), and maintenance of accurate and complete clinical research files.

Communicate effectively with the study participants, faculty collaborators, UCSD Human Research Protections Program Office, and the UCSD Clinical Translational Research Institute.

Must have the ability to handle several projects at once, pay close attention to detail, communicate priorities, and track daily / weekly progress.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Theoretical knowledge of a biological science such as Biology, Microbiology or a related field. Knowledge of the basic science of Gulf War Illness, including familiarity with general medical problems and terminology.

Excellent organizational skills. Experience planning, organizing, and managing the scheduling of study visits, sponsor visits or teleconferences, and meetings with key personnel, all in the midst of handling multiple priorities and deadlines.

Excellent communication skills. Ability to quickly comprehend written and oral instructions. Ability to write legibly to complete data collection forms.

Ability to work effectively as a team member.

Knowledge and skill in using Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as research databases, electronic case report forms, and other computer based programs.

Ability to organize and concurrently manage information in several formats : paper, electronic, and oral.

Experience developing complex surveys that require skip and other forms of logic while utilizing survey-based software (Qualtrics preferred).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience coordinating clinical trials in a diseased population with multiple health problems. Ability to read scientific text for general understanding of basic concepts.

Ability to summarize and convey technical and medical information to lay individuals at a level appropriate for their understanding.

Knowledge of common laboratory tests performed and associated normal results.

Familiarity with regulatory documents needed for the conduct of clinical trials. Experience in submitting applications, consents and correspondence to the IRB and / or UCSD Human Research Protections Program for review and approval

Knowledge in the processing and shipping of blood and urine laboratory specimens, both ambient and frozen. Familiarity with guidelines of biohazardous handling.

Knowledge and strict utilization of universal precautions when handling laboratory specimens.

Familiarity with electronic medical records (Epic preferred) for reviewing hospitalizations, laboratory results, and other clinical data.

Familiarity and comfort in communicating with patients with acute and chronic health problems. Ability to advocate for subjects if their understanding of the nature of their study participation is in question.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $53,766 - $64,143 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $25.75 - $30.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
