Prodigy opened our original location at 40th & Colorado Blvd in 2016 and we haven’t looked back since. We were awarded Best New Coffeehouse in Denver in 2017 by Westword Magazine, recognized by5280 Magazine as one of 2022’s Best Coffee Shops in Denver and in 2023 recognized on the national USA Today poll as a top ten Independent Coffeehouse in the nation, Prodigy continues to be recognized for our commitment to young people and craft coffee.
Our Globeville location opened in September 2023 at 45th & Broadway. We have a fabulous foundational craft coffeehouse business, and need a key leader to carry us into our next phase, as we tighten business operations and mature as an organization.
General Manager would be a key partner in developing Prodigy as an even stronger brand and more competitive craft coffeehouse in the Denver market.
We are seeking a key individual to lead our operations team and manage the shops. This individual would possess a skill and experience base that can train a team of young adults, helping them harness their motivation and creativity to become true coffee craftsmen / women with a love of learning within the community.
Position Overview : General Manager, with support from Assistant Manager and other emerging leaders, has the primary responsibility for oversight of coffeehouse operations & technical training of young adult staff;
General Manager will focus on product quality, customer experience and achievement of Prodigy’s coffeehouse sales goals, with continual driving toward excellence in operations.
The GM has experience managing a high-quality retail food / beverage establishment, business acumen, flexibility within our unique model, is highly resourceful, and possesses personal values in alignment with Prodigy’s DNA.

Through this position the General Manager will be supported to :

- Work within a dynamic Leadership Team. Prodigy has a small but top notch Leadership Team that will support you as an individual to grow and experience healing, with a good dose of humor, play and levity, when appropriate.
- Develop diverse talent. Work alongside young adults with diverse life experiences, unique perspectives, who bring a passion for personal development, equity, and community.
- Grow and expand a successful business. Support process of opening additional coffeehouse(s) as opportunities arise. Open and lead operations in multiple coffeehouses.
Primary Duties : General Manager will,
- Maintain and seek to improve current level of product quality & customer experience
- Analyze current operations and make adjustments for increasing quality of experience for customers and staff; Integrate craft coffee industry trends, customer feedback & staff feedback
- Analyze workflow for efficiency balanced with learning needs of apprentices; Lead implementation of operational changes
- Uphold Prodigy’s high standards of business, operations and customer experience
- Plan for and execute training in a timely manner using strategies to set apprentices up for success
- Inform & support attainment of Sales, Business and other Operational Goals; Take action based on effective weekly business analysis.
- Act as Manager on Duty and / or establish system to ensure daily duties are conducted with quality
- Establish and maintain inventory to meet customer and business needs
- Effectively plan and prioritize work to meet operational standards
- Support development & implementation of Apprentice Manager Training Program as leadership pipeline for Prodigy apprentices
- Build & maintain synergistic relationships with customers, staff, community members & partners Work as part of a small team of leaders to achieve overall organizational & impact goals Alongside Prodigy leadership team, support start-up of additional Prodigy Coffeehouse locations Lead and grow small coffee catering program
- Coordinate or conduct equipment and / or facilities maintenance, as is needed
- Engage in continual personal Justice, Equity, and Diversity growth and efforts within the organization
- Serve as a role model exhibiting Prodigy’s mission, vision and values
Qualifications :
- 3+ years of retail / hospitality management experience required
- Attention to detail, organization & operations mindset is essential
- Professional work experience and strong references
- Solid problem-solving & efficient decision-making skills
- Ability to distill information to its essence; teach in effective, simplified manner
- Willingness to hold high-standards while providing high support to baristas
- Resourceful & flexible within a small business, start-up environment
- Ability to give & receive constructive feedback
- Diverse life experiences and / or experience with marginalization highly desired
- Must exhibit transformational leadership mindsets & fit within Prodigy’s culture of mutuality
