Dynamics of the Role

BBI is currently seeking a Senior Oracle DB - Engineer to join our customer in Chicago, IL Office. As a Senior Oracle Database Engineer, you’ll will work in a team environment to provide knowledge of relational databases, primarily Oracle, logical / physical database design, and assist in Data Migration from On-Prem to Off-Prem, legacy database to target database, automation, scripting, architectural development and support including performance tuning on a new platform, diagnose problem and resolve issues.

In addition, you will work closely with the clients lead DBA, but also be expected to lead and work comfortably and confidently as a strong individual performer.

How You'll Contribute

• Provide data migration expertise and convert Oracle databases to Yugabyte databases. (Yugabyte databases are a high-performance transactional distributed SQL database for cloud-native applications)
• Create scripting to automate manual procedures
• Possess strong PostgreSQL skills allow them to define appropriate table relationships, implement indexing strategies, and ensure data consistency and reliability
• Apply strong Engineering skills towards migration effort
• Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills
• Lead with strong Site reliability engineering skills by demonstrating a set of principles and practices that applies aspects of software engineering to IT infrastructure and operations
• Provide Apache Kafka skills to handle the clients open-source data streaming platform that combines messaging, storage, and stream processing to handle their large amounts of near, real-time data
• Demonstrating strong Architectural skills by bringing an in-depth, overall Database knowledge and experience
• Provide DBA expertise to the client to address any specific migration issue
• Assist application teams in deployments and release work
• Serves as a strong technical resource and work independently to Systems management, project managers, etc.

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience with DynamoDB, PostgreSQL is a plus
• Strong Engineering skills
• Python or Java
• Strong knowledge of at least one scripting language
• Architect background with strong Database knowledge
• Automation expertise (e.g. Terraform, Ansible etc.)
• Apache Kafka
• Trouble shooting skills
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline or equivalent experience with Oracle or similar relational database technologies
• Understanding of advanced physical database design concepts like database partitioning, denormalization, buffer pool tuning, and index optimization.
• Excellent knowledge of SQL, PL / SQL, Packages, Stored Procedures
• Good communication skills and must work well in a team environment
• Yugabyte Data base (a plus)
