The Role

The Allied Healthcare Practice Leader is a strategically important role to Hiscox USA and its vision to become America’s Leading Small Business Insurer.

In this role, this leader is charged with leading our underwriting for our Allied Heatlhcare and Sexual Misconduct Liability products.

This is an exciting opportunity to create insurance solutions for micro, small, and middle market healthcare businesses in both our Digital and Intermediated channels.

The role reports to the SVP, Underwriting Management.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Leadership and collaboration across the organization.
  • Appetite, Risk Selection, Forms
  • Limits, Aggregation, Emerging Risk Assessment
  • Underwriter Authority Management and Training
  • Market Monitoring and Thought Leadership

Profitable Growth

  • Defining a competitive appetite to enable profitable growth.
  • Implementing a strategy to qualify, select and assess risk which aligns with robust underwriting controls.
  • Building and maintaining underwriting tools for risk evaluation, including applications, guidelines, risk scoring, and utilization of first and third party data.
  • Ensuring Forms are fit for competitive and risk management purposes.

Technical Excellence

  • Setting individual risk, concentration risk and aggregate limit strategies.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting insurance underwriting and make recommendations for adjustments to policies and practices in conjunction with Product Management function.
  • Setting training agenda for team. Delivering technical training as needed.
  • Setting target Referral Trigger Strategy and Referral Volume metrics.
  • Collaborating with Claims, Actuarial, and Product Management to ensure challenges and opportunities in our loss ratios are identified timely and acted upon.

Connected Communication & Customer Centricity :

  • Development and delivery of an underwriting roadmap - taking into consideration feedback and priorities of internal stakeholders.
  • Engagement with internal and external distribution partners to execute the business plan, maintain a pulse on the trading environment and drive product development.
  • Building credibility as a subject matter expert on strategic underwriting issues and acts as the underwriting spokesperson in the industry.
  • Ensuring product and services resonate with customer whether placed directly with Hiscox or through intermediaries.
  • Encourages continuous improvement of results to increase productivity, profitability and ensure standards set by Underwriting Excellence are met.
  • Foster a spirit of inclusion and collaboration that reflects the Hiscox Values.
  • Develop best practices to encourage knowledge sharing of Healthcare portfolio and across wider Underwriting teams.
  • Collaborates across the organization to drive profitable growth agenda.
  • Continuously improves the business.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years Healthcare underwriting experience, with preference toward underwriting / P&L management in recent years.
  • Decision Quality : Ability to make effective decisions to drive profitability.
  • Strategic Mindset : Ability to develop long term underwriting strategies which evolve with changing markets.
  • Innovation : Ability to develop and implement underwriting solutions that lead in the market
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and commercial sensibilities to apply broad thinking to business issues.
  • Dynamic problem-solving ability, including the ability to manage and prioritize several potentially competing objectives.
  • High learning agility and intellectual curiosity, combined with the organizational coordination to work in a matrixed environment.
  • Collaborative and effective at bringing together different parts of the organization to drive results.
  • Strong board room’ presence with maturity, confidence, and experience to interact effectively with various levels of personnel / management both internally and externally.
  • Advanced communication skills, including consensus building and presentation skills.
  • Ability to, in both written and oral presentations, clearly communicate technical issues in simple, understandable terms.
  • Strong management and leadership abilities with a focus on recruiting and retaining best talent and capitalizing on the existing strengths within the organization.
  • Experience with Lloyd’s of London a plus, but not required
  • CPCU or RPLU designation a plus, but not required.

Salary Overview

$150,000.00 - $225,000.00
