Summary
Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC) Biostatistics is seeking a Lead, IT Infrastructure and Systems to oversee multiple units in the Breast Center and Cancer Center administration.
This position works closely with various labs, cores, and divisions within the center to implement, plan, design, and manage enterprise services technology and Information systems.
This position works with leadership and principle investigators using complex applications and will eventually leads / supervises junior level engineers.
This position will be responsible for managing in all respects the DLDCCC Enterprise-class HPC cluster for dozens of labs and hundreds of users at BCM.
The HPC cluster runs the Slurm scheduler on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with dozens of nodes and hundreds of CPUs. The position will also be responsible for the local storage administration, plus coordinating other storage and network issues with BCM Office of Information Technology.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in the Greater Houston, TX area after an onboarding and training period.
Job Duties
- Analyzes new software and hardware technologies.
- Plans and implements assigned projects.
- Assists and consults with other IT members on technical issues.
- Instructs, directs, and checks the work of other systems engineers and may be responsible for project completion and user satisfaction.
- First line of contact with working with the ESIS operational team, ensures that the current computing and infrastructure environments are maintained properly and appropriate troubleshooting steps are followed for adequate problem resolution.
- Oversees and approves the installation, configuration, and management of computing and infrastructure technologies, including : equipment placement / layout, environmentals, rack specifications, system build, and documentation required to provide a solid operational foundation within the Cancer / Breast Centers.
- Collaborates with Principal Investigators and director to evaluates, recommend, and forecast budgets for new technologies, software and hardware.
- Builds and designs strategies for the successful and timely installation of computing and infrastructure technologies.
This also includes working with project management in definition of timelines, project scope, and deliverables.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Six years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with HPC, Linux, compiling software from source, storage administration
- Heavily Desired : 5+ years of experience in HPC with the Slurm scheduler, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, shell scripting, system monitoring tools, experience with Hitachi storage devices, strong troubleshooting and user support skills
- Some familiarity with HPE hardware, web application servers, Java middleware like Wildfly and / or Tomcat, and Oracle, Mysql, and Mongo databases, and Pure Storage flash arrays, Windows servers
- Familiarity with Python is a plus!
